Not everyone will love you, even if you try,
even when you give everything that you have, and more.
You can be tender and they will say you are too soft.
You can be brave and they will say you are too loud.
You can be kind and they will say you must have other intentions.
You can be confident and they will say you are drunk on your own reflection.
You can be different and they will say you are delusional.
You can be sad and they will say you are only looking for attention.
You will never find love by compromising who you are.
You will find love by remaining true to yourself
and seeing who chooses to stay.

Powerful words! Any thoughts on this?
These words just renew my day. Thank you
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful, and that makes me happy. Thank you Roentare :)
DeleteThat sounds pretty good to me - but is not always an easy journey.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sue! Very true, it's always a journey and all journeys have bumps in the road :)
DeleteRather true Denise.
ReplyDeleteThanks Margaret, and I agree :)
DeleteVery true. I think we all spend way too much time worrying about whether or not people like us. I think we just need to like ourselves and that is enough. The other people who like you as well are simply icing on the cake.
ReplyDeleteHi Ann, all we can do is do our best. I am at the stage of my life now where worry takes way too much energy, and getting older has been liberating for me. There is always icing on the cake, I like that :)
DeleteSounds entirely true to me!
ReplyDeletehugs
Donna
Great, thank you Donna and sending hugs :)
DeleteVery powerful words. Keep well Diane
ReplyDeleteThank you Diane and you keep well also :)
DeleteWise words indeed and so true. Thanks for sharing. Take care, have a great day and happy weekend.
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome Eileen and I wish you the same :)
Deletepowerful words INDEED! this is perfect and agree with each word. I am forwarding this to my cousin a people pleaser trying to make people love her.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sandra, I hope it will help your cousin :)
DeleteOften, we try too much to have people like or love us, and that can cause real frustration. The fact is that to borrow another saying, you can't please everyone and so should please yourself.
ReplyDeleteAn old saying that still rings true today. Thanks my friend :)
DeleteI have always struggled with self-esteem.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jenn :) Many of us have been there and listening to others negativity can be draining. There are those who think they know us, the real 'us' and are often very wrong.
DeleteLovely photo art! Staying true to yourself is sound advice.
ReplyDeleteThanks Christine, I will share the original photo some time :) Yes, very good advice indeed.
DeleteTeaching middle school kids, I dealt with this issue many times. This is the only thing I could tell them.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's why I say again Red, I wish I was lucky enough to have you as a teacher :)
DeleteOh, I loved this, Denise. And it's so true. There's no pleasing everyone. And sometimes we just don't click with others. But like the poem says, we always see who chooses to stay. And the most important thing is that we don't change to please others, and we keep our own identity, even if it's unusual to others. Thank you for sharing this wonderful poem, Denise, and have a peaceful weekend, dear friend.
ReplyDeleteSheri
Hello dear friend :) I totally agree! It's good to know people who don't fit into the usual cookie cutter of what others think should be the norm. Thank you and you have a peaceful weekend also.
DeleteThis is just WONDERFUL, and I am copying it!!! I need to take it to heart. Your photo editing is awesome, what did you use? I love the sunflower. And it has tiny ones growing in the center!
ReplyDeleteWell Ginny, you have made my day :) So glad you enjoyed this. As for the flower, I used my ArtCard app. It makes it so easy to come up with something like this, just by the push of a button, with so many different effects. Those tiny flowers inside the center are an amazing part of nature aren't they? I love finding these little jewels.
DeleteCopied and in my word program!
ReplyDeleteFantastic!
DeleteWise indeed.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed, thank you William :)
DeletePretty image and true words except the last part is not realistic. Many people never find real love. Then again, when I was young, it was very hard to be yourself as a female without finding yourself in danger.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing that Linda, I very much appreciate your candor and your own wise words :)
DeleteA whole lotta truth here, Denise.
ReplyDeleteI used to try too hard to gain people's approval of me. Now, at 61, I don't give a damn anymore.
Life is too short!
Hugs and blessings
Thank you Veronica :) definitely, life is far too short for that nonsense. Hugs and blessings to you also.
