I opened up a book and in I strode.
Now nobody can find me.
I’ve left my chair, my house, my road,
My town and my world behind me.
I’m wearing my cloak, I’ve slipped on the ring,
I’ve swallowed the magic potion.
I’ve fought with a dragon, dined with a king
And dived in a bottomless ocean.
I opened a book and made some friends.
I shared their tears and laughter
And followed their road with its bumps and bends
To the happily ever after.
I finished my book and out I came.
The cloak can no longer hide me.
My chair and my house are just the same,
But I have a book inside me.
Love it. And how true it is.
ReplyDeleteSo glad, thank you Sue :)

ReplyDeleteSo glad you enjoyed Margaret, thank you :)
DeleteIt is great to lose oneself in a good book. Enjoy your reading.
ReplyDeleteThank you Diane and it surely is :) I will and you too.
DeleteLove it. What a delightful poem that is. And it's so true also. It's fun to escape inside a book
ReplyDeleteSplendid and I totally agree Ann :)
DeleteHello Denise,
ReplyDeleteI love this poem and can relate. Take care, have a great day!
Hello Eileen, I am happy you enjoyed and I wish you the same :)
DeleteLove it Love it Love it!!!! I have been living inside books since I was 5 years old. Books saved me through my childhood and followed into my teenhood and adult hood. perfect
ReplyDeleteThat’s great Sandra, so glad :) It’s good to know you feel that way about books. I am happy they were there for you.
DeleteHello Denise:=)
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this delightful poem. I hope that the captivating experience of escapism into another imaginary place that books provide will always be appreciated well into the future, as libraries close, and there seems to be less interest in page turning. What a great loss it would be if if the next generation could not lose themselves inside a good poetry book or any book for that matter. Only time will tell if audio books take over, but perhaps I am being too pessimistic.
Anyway not to end on a sour note, I loved the poem and the illustration.
Hello Sonjia :) you are very welcome my friend. You describe reading a book beautifully. It is hard to imagine that libraries will eventually close but I fear you are correct as we get further and further along with technology. Will books be behind the glass at the museums? Some very old and famous ones are I know. As you say, only time will tell.
DeleteLike this. :)
ReplyDeleteSo glad, thank you Sandi :)
DeleteReading or listening to an audio book is delightful and this poem captures that joy, Denise. There is a book on my Kindle, an audio book on my phone and a library borrow in my home at all times!
ReplyDeleteThank you Dorothy :) You have lots of reading material for your trip then? Just for the down times of course. I'm sure you are going to be very, very busy.
DeleteThat is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteHappy you think so, thank you Jenn :)

DeleteLovely poem.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, thought so as soon as I found it. Thank you William :)
DeleteLove this.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
You are very welcome Sandra, so glad you enjoyed :)
DeleteIt's beyond wonderful when a book can do that! Lovely prose, Denise.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it, to be carried away to a different place, different time, all this is possible when reading. Thank you Martha Ellen :)
DeleteI love this Denise!! I'm reading an old series of mysteries by Margery Allingham (a contemporary of Agatha Christie).... I'm more about imagining I'm living in the past than in the future right now. But either way, reading does take me away from the day's news.
ReplyDeleteI will have to check this author out Sallie. Thanks for introducing her. So glad you enjoy the poem. This lady certainly spoke to many of us. I know what you mean. It is hard to get away from all the sadness and horrors in the world, but a good book gives a temporary respite. I only wish I could wave a magic wand and protect all the innocents.
DeleteBeautiful poem as usual. Always witty and fun to read
ReplyDeleteThank you Roentare, I appreciate your comment very much :)
DeleteOh, this is delightful. It reminds me so much of Nel, as she is a book lover, and with her profession as an English Professor, she has read so many books. Are you a book lover too, Denise? I haven't read a good book in a long time. It seems the font is too small for these tired eyes. ; )
ReplyDelete~Sheri
How wonderful that Nel is an English Professor :) You must be so proud of her Sheri. Yes I am a book lover. We have our own mini library at home and I love nothing more than to pull a book off a shelf. I still enjoy leafing through the pages, but I have very strong reading glasses these days!
