HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE - HERE'S THE BIRD FEEDER - IT'S A TABLE...

but first, the plants in the two pots are hanging in there. I thought their hiatus at the side of the house would have done them in by now. We kept forgetting to water them, but thankfully there was enough rain to keep them going.
I found the buffet-style table online. It's made out of the same material as most of the deck. It came in a flat, oblong box. My dear other half got his toolkit out and put it together.  As mentioned before, not being able to hang anything on the rail or sprinkle the seed on the top (too rounded and narrow), and not wanting to drill any holes for hangers in the new framework (it is made of Trex not wood) this is what we came up with.  If nothing else it will make a very nice utility table, the first piece of outdoor furniture we have bought in years.
I watched a squirrel climb down the trellis the first day. He worked his way down from the top with the flatter beam along the edge, but was not able to climb down to the table.  We have large tree branches that are his highway to the deck. Gregg bought a book for me when we were out and about the other day.  I had to smile as we long ago welcomed the squirrels as well as the birds to our feeders, and I don’t really want to outwit them.  Shocking I know and I appreciated the book.  I don't know yet if it's supposed to be humorous or whether it is literally sharing squirrel deterrents.  I am sure it will be a fun read.
So, here we are with the squirrel and bird buffet table. Will they come? My early morning alarm this morning were the crows squawking in the early hours. When I came down there were none to be found. Were they warning all feathered friends to stay away? Am I projecting again? Probably! We will have to wait and see.
Below, this dish is actually advertised as a birdbath, and will be returned to this use before too long.  It has 'steps' that go down the inside of the dish, which will make it easier for the birds than one deep well - hoping!
Okay, so it is built, now will they come?
We'll see!

Thanks for looking everyone.
Have a great week!

  1. That is one high class bird feeder! They're find it soon. Might want to sprinkle some seeds on the narrow upper shelf to tease them in. The squirrel book looks like a helpful book. Let us know! Linda in Kansas

  6. That looks really nice. With a high class eating establishment like that I don't see how the birds could resist. I'm betting the squirrels will love it too.

  10. Good luck, Denise! I'm not so worried about squirrels, either. One cannot be to picky about who eats there. Except for the bears. They just ruin everything!

  12. Now we wait to see how long it takes to do your first whine about why did i put a white piece of furniture outside. the white bench on our front porch, drives me nuts. it gets black dust and grime and shows every grain. it really needs to be washed at least once a week, i just leave it dirty since i can't see it. even if you use a pressure washer you will have to move all the plants. it is beautiful and I am waiting to see if They Come! is there a way to put your cam out?

    1. It will be interesting Sandra :) Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on where you live ;)) we have more rain up here to wash everything down than in Florida. I still think it will take some maintenance in the cleaning department though, but at this point in time I am very happy with it. That bird cam will be there eventually. We just have to figure out a way to safely attach it.

  17. I really love this table! And it has so many different uses!! It is just perfect. You sure have left out abundant food. I have read that it takes a long time for birds to get used to changes in their feeding routine, so I am sure in a week or so they will come. Especially with cold weather almost upon us. Then what fun we will all have! Let me know how the book is, I am tempted to order one.

I will take another photo of the dish sometime so that you can see what I described. I hope you had a lovely weekend also, and wish you a very happy week.

  24. What a nice table you found for your deck. It will be nice for the birds when they come around. And I noticed that beautiful Fall tree in the background. If your book has any tips about getting rid of the squirrels, please let me know. You know, I'm not fond of them whatsoever haha.
