but not too far away. The crows are all of a dither!
One crow decided he wasn't going to wait around to find out.
What the crows don't know is that their feeding area is going to be updated. When I start filling the bird feeders again in the colder months, things are going to look a bit different out back. After living in our home for 30 years plus, we are getting a new deck. It's been repaired many times, but we finally decided, and for safety reasons, it needed to be replaced. The builders are supposed to be here on Monday. The weather may be a problem. We are in for a rainy week so who knows. They gave us a week's time frame, but it could be longer. Let the hammering begin, or not!

Interesting crow fact:
"How long does a crow live? Once they survive the first year, they have a good chance of making it for several more years. Some are six years old and still helping their parents. Some crows should live to be 17 - 21 years old. The oldest known wild American Crow was 29-1/2 years old. The second oldest known, however, was only 14 years, 7 months. These are crows that were banded."
As you may have guessed, I enjoy our local crows.
Thanks for looking and have a great weekend.
I hope your new deck is wonderful. Like you, I am a big, big fan of crows. They are such intelligent family minded birds. I think they are beautiful too.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sue, always a bit of angst, did we choose the right colors, design, etc. But the most important thing is that it is strong and safe, and completely agree with you about the crows :)
DeleteI enjoy ours as well. They are so smart! I want before and after photos!!!
ReplyDeleteThey certainly are and will do :) Thanks Ginny!
DeleteIt is so interesting to learn their average lifespan which I know nothing about.
ReplyDeleteYes, I always enjoy finding something new. Thank you Roentare :)
DeleteDidn't know they could live that long!
ReplyDeleteIt was a surprise to me too :)
DeleteI'm sure the crows and you will be glad when the construction is complete and you can enjoy your new deck. Crows are so entertaining and so intelligent. They will probably be watching the progress next week. Love the lift off photo, Denise!
ReplyDeleteThank you Martha Ellen, I will find it an interesting process, and I was pleased to see that lift-off too, albeit a little blurry :)
DeleteInteresting info on the crows. Your new deck will be wonderful, we need to do the same here. So far our son has been doing the deck repairs for us. Take care, have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks Eileen, how nice your son was able to maintain it for you :) You take care and have a great weekend also.
DeleteThey are clever birds.
ReplyDeleteAgree :)
DeleteI had no idea that a crow could live that long. How exciting getting a new deck. I absolutely love the looks of the front porch on your house too.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ann :) that front part was built a few years ago. The gentleman did a great job.
Deletethe pixabay crow is beautiful. I like talking crows, ha ha... yay for a new deck, we need a redo on our deck and pool, do yoy have about 20,000 you could spare? that is really old for a crow... hope the rain doesn't cause a lot of problems.
ReplyDeleteI thought so too and loved the combination of colors the artist used. Talking crows are always fun. I hear them in the trees and on our deck rail. Real chatterboxes, real noisy and I love them. Yikes! I only wish :) It is an expensive proposition but we haven’t had a lot done over the years we have been here, the bare minimum, so we have been lucky. Now the old house is giving us orders ;)
DeleteGood luck building the new deck. I'm sure you'll have some clever parts for better bird feeding and viewing.
ReplyDeleteThanks Red, I hope so :) we had to go in a slightly different direction so we'll have to wait and see.
DeleteHow exciting is that?!? Both you and the birds should enjoy the new deck. Interesting information on the crows. I would have never guessed they live that long.
ReplyDeleteIt is and we are looking forward to it. This one is looking worse for wear and when we were talking to one of the builders for estimates, he said they were doing other new decks in our area, and they all looked like ours, which made me feel a bit better, lol! Next spring we will purchase a few pieces of outdoor furniture, which will be nice. That was new information for me too on the crows. Thanks Jim and Barb :)
DeleteGood luck with all that. I like your crow story!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jenn, happy you enjoyed :)
DeleteInteresting on the crow life span.
ReplyDeleteI thought so too and one of the reasons I enjoy blogging so much, learning as I go. Thanks Christine :)
DeleteYay on the new deck.
ReplyDeleteMost definitely, thank you Hena :)
DeleteInteresting about the crows. I’ve been thinking about a new deck.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading about the crows, glad you did too. It was a case of having to get a new deck. That old wood was long past worse for wear :)
DeleteAn interesting read about crows.
ReplyDeleteHope your new decking work goes well.
All the best Jan
Glad you enjoyed Jan, thank you and all the best to you too :)
