SATURDAY MORNING AT THE BIRD FEEDER - ROCKIN' WHO?

If you want to hear the original version of Rockin' Robin, there's a great YouTube at this link.

The full lyrics are below, with thanks to all the good little birdies rockin' in the treetops.

Rockin’ Robin lyrics

Our key: Overtones

Other versions to check out: Bobby Day (arr. based on this one), Michael Jackson

Intro

Verse 1

He rocks in the treetops all day long, hoppin' and a-boppin' and singing his song

All the little birds on Jaybird Street love to hear the robin go tweet-tweet-tweet

Chorus

Rockin' robin, Rock-rock-rockin' robin'

Go rockin' robin 'cause we're really gonna rock tonight

Verse 2

Every little swallow, every chick-a-dee, every little bird in the tall oak tree

The wise old owl, the big black crow flappin' their wings singin' "go bird, go"

Chorus

Rockin' robin, Rock-rock-rockin' robin'

Go rockin' robin 'cause we're really gonna rock tonight

Bridge

Well, the pretty little raven at the bird bandstand taught him how to do the bop and it was grand

They started going steady and bless my soul, he out-bopped the buzzard and the oriole

Verse 3 (same as 1)

He rocks in the treetops all day long hoppin' and a-boppin' and singing his song

All the little birds on Jaybird Street love to hear the robin go tweet-tweet-tweet

Chorus

Rockin' robin, Rock-rock-rockin' robin'

Go rockin' robin 'cause we're really gonna rock tonight

Bridge

Well, the pretty little raven at the bird bandstand taught him how to do the bop and it was grand

They started going steady and bless my soul he out-bopped the buzzard and the oriole

KEY CHANGE

He out bopped-the buzzard and the oriole

Verse 4 (same as 1)

He rocks in the treetops all day long hoppin' and a-boppin' and singing his song

All the little birds on Jaybird Street love to hear the robin go tweet-tweet-tweet

Chorus

Rockin' robin, Rock-rock-rockin' robin'

Go rockin' robin 'cause we're really gonna rock tonight

  1. Your photos fit the words perfectly! And yes, I remember this song very well! But I bet American Bandstand would not have given it a good grade for being good to dance to.

  3. Love the lyrics to this sing! Hey, this is a good time to remind folks about our lovely Robin. The American Robin is in the thrush family, totally different from the European robin. You often see robins on the ground, listening for worms. They are not great fliers, so if you see one beside the road, give it just that second or two more to fly out of way of your car. We see dead robins hit by cars and it makes us sad. We want the robins to keep on rockin'!

    1. Hello Kay :) that's great and yes we do have a lovely Robin. Thanks for the info and that would certainly be very sad. Fortunately we haven't seen Robins like that around here, other animals but never Robins. We want them all to keep on rockin' :)
