"I have been alone but seldom lonely.
I have satisfied my thirst
At the well
Of myself,
And that wine was good,
The best I ever had,
And tonight
Sitting
Staring into the dark,
I now fully understand
The dark and the light
And everything in between."
from "Mind and Heart"
and this one made me chuckle.
I am much more likely to be lonely in a crowd than when I am alone. A day of tea and books sounds blissful.
ReplyDeleteI understand that Sue :) and yes, tea and books, lovely! :)
DeleteYep, sometimes it's just too peopley out there! Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda, yep, yep, yep! :) Love that little picture I found, describes me to a 't'.
DeleteGood words Denise.
ReplyDeleteThank you Margaret :)
DeleteLove the poetry. The pug is so cute
ReplyDeleteIt's a great poem and I agree on that pug :) Thanks Roentare!
DeleteCute poems, I have had that too peopley feeling. Take care, have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThanks Eileen, yes I get it a lot lately :) You take care and have a great day also.
DeleteI like that poem. I agree with the other one about being too peopley outside...lol
ReplyDeleteThanks Ann, me too and it looks like a lot of us feel the same, lol :)
DeleteHello Denise :=)
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a lovely Christmas and a festive New Year. I never feel lonely when I'm on my own, I indulge in solitary pursuits which give me pleasure, and before I realise it hours have passed in the most enjoyable way. I'm not fond of crowds either so can empathise with the written words of the poems. The last one made me smile, but I'm sure some dogs feel that way:=). Thank you for your last visit Denise and kind words. It is a pleasure to visit you, and I am also enjoying your friendship.
All the best for 2024.
Sonjia.
Hello Sonjia :) We did thank you and I hope yours was the same. I couldn't agree with you more and I think we are very alike. I am very happy with my own company, love being with the people I love but enjoy my solitude at times and am always amazed at how much goes by. I am happy you enjoyed my post. I thoroughly enjoy my visits to you, and I feel the same. I would also like to wish you the very best for 2024 Sonjia, may it be your happiest yet.
DeleteBooks yes, tea not so much.
ReplyDeleteCoffee then? :) Thanks for the visit David, I have been enjoying your photos from Cuba.
DeleteHiding out in bed sounds so good! lolol
ReplyDeletehugs
Donna
It does, and I remember one time when the weather was awful outside, we lost electricity for 24 hours and bed and blankets kept us in survival mode, lol! This was several years ago though, in another area of the US. Sending hugs :)
Deletebring on the books, nothing I love more. Books even top my love of smart phone. I can relate to the comment about being lonely in a crowd of people, more than if by myself. I don't enjoy parties for that very reason, even though I love talking to strangers in stores or on beaches. something to do with feeling the pressure of trying to converse as opposed to can if I want to.. now i have a new insight to myself
ReplyDeleteMost definitely, I love reading a good book. I have never been a party person, had to attend a lot of them years ago, not by choice but it was business. I enjoy talking to my immediate family, and people I meet day-to-day. It's amazing how well we get to know and understand ourselves as we get older. I find I am quite happy these days and very content.
DeleteI like the I have been alone poem. It also works the other way like the dog who thinks it's too peopley outside.
ReplyDeleteThat's funny Red, I enjoyed your comment. Thank you :)
DeleteYes, it is cold. Too cold!
ReplyDeleteRoll on Spring? lol!
DeleteIt is far too peopley outside!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I am a country girl at heart and love the mountains, not too peopley up there, lol! :)
Deletethere is a difference between being home alone and being lonely. but, shortly after being home alone, i become lonely!! i could never send a day in bed, unless i am sick!!
ReplyDeleteOr as I mentioned before, when the weather is a blizzard outside and the electric went out in the apartment :) Books made for great reading then and now. I still love a good book.
DeleteNice poem
ReplyDeleteThank you Christine :)
DeleteHello! I am all about staying in because it is indeed too peopley out side!
ReplyDeleteA kindred spirit Billie Jo :)
DeleteOh my, I have spent way too much time in bed lately (with covid) so I was more than happy to be out of bed and busy putting away from Christmas stuff today. House looks all straight and ready for 2024 now.
ReplyDeleteI can understand that Latane :) I hope all is well with you now and good to hear you are out of bed. I am still getting there. Ornaments are off the trees and now all I have to do is store them all. I gave myself until the end of January for completion, but hopefully it will be done long before the end of the month. I am looking forward to visiting you soon. Way, way behind with my comments.
DeleteTea and my books, lovely!
ReplyDeleteHi Pamela and yes indeed, couldn't agree with you more :)
DeleteA lovely poem, Denise. I got your email -- thank you! I will be answering -- maybe tonight or by tomorrow for sure!
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked it Jeanie :) That's great, I have probably read your letter. I'd also like to thank you for your e-mails.
DeleteCurling up with a good book on a cold day sounds delightful.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly does :) Thank you Sandra :)
DeleteTea and a good book are welcome.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed, thank you William :)
