This is a continuation of the photos taken of the deer in yesterday's post. We found them at the house we were invited to for the weekend.
When we first arrived, a family of four deer were on the grounds in front of the house. The trees were well established and looked many years old. They offered a welcoming shade with lots of tasty grass, an idyllic place for these pretty animals.
The next day when I was told one was back, I grabbed our other camera with the zoom. She was aware of my presence but didn't appear threatened. Her ears twitched a few times but when I didn't move towards her, she settled back to eating her grass, I took my photos and left her in peace.
"From all kinds of flowers,
Seek teachings everywhere,
Like a deer that finds
A quiet place to graze,
Seek seclusion to digest
All you have gathered."

Did you know that deer can swim at up to 15 miles per hour? Our nephew told us that he saw a deer swimming across the river near his house the other day. They can also run up to speeds of 30 to 40 miles per hour, and can jump up to six to eight feet high.
Thank you for looking at today's post, and have a great day.
I have seen deer jump, and it is amazing how high they can get. I did NOT know they can swim!! Your photos are so elegant and beautiful. And the first one, peeking from behind the tree, is so cute!
ReplyDeleteA lovely sight to see the deer jumping, such graceful animals. Happy you enjoyed these, thanks Ginny :)
DeleteLove that first shot! So cute!
ReplyDeleteIt's my favorite, thanks Linda. I am going to start adding the previous month's favorite photo on my sidebar.
DeleteThey are super cute. Seeing them would make for a red letter day for me. Thank you for sharing these gorgeous photos of an equally gorgeous animal.
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome EC, and it truly was a red letter day for me too.
DeleteUm belo animal muito bem fotografado.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e continuação de uma boa semana.

DeleteThe first picture is is a wonderful capture. I too have seen deer jump but had no idea they could swim. Your blog is very educational, Denise. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHi Valerie, thank you so much and you are always welcome. I am very happy to share these beautiful animals.
DeleteThe deer are picture perfect, and I'll have you know they can apparently swim much faster than I can.(lol) Hugs and Happy Wednesday! RO
ReplyDeleteHi RO, yes, they could swim faster than me too ;) Hugs and a Happy Wednesday to you also.
DeleteGREAT photos!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sandi.
DeleteHello, love the deer and photos. Have a happy day!
ReplyDeleteThank you Eileen and the same to you.
DeleteI knew all of this about deer because we were talking to a wild life rescue officer about the deer he had in a pen. he had rescued her when she was a baby. he went in the pen and petted her and then told us deer can kill or main with their hooves. he said never try to get close to or pet a deer, not even a small one. he said they can stand up on their hind legs and really do damage with those flailing hooves. in your first photo if she had her eyes closed she would be hard to see, looks like a limb coming out of the tree. awesome photos and I have never seen wild deer like this. would love to.
ReplyDeleteThat's very interesting Sandra and yes I know all about those flaying hooves. Always best to stay well clear and keep that distance recommended, and even then be alert.
DeleteThese are different deer compared to what we have. We have mostly mule deer and a few white tails. the mule deer are a much stockier animal.
ReplyDeleteWe only have white-tailed deer around here but remember the mule deer on our trips, and the pronghorns, also elk. All magnificent animals.
DeleteWonderful shots, especially the first one.
ReplyDeleteThank you William.
DeleteThey are such graceful creatures!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree.
DeleteHi Denise,
ReplyDeleteSomething very calming getting images of Deer, as you will remember I had numerous visits doing the same, some super images.
All the best, John
Hi John, yes I remember them well. Soothing to the soul to observe these beautiful animals.
DeleteSuch good photos, Denise! So close--they must see humans often to have that kind of trust. I remember years ago seeing a deer swim across a creek off of the Potomac. Quite a surprising sight. Have a lovely week.
ReplyDeleteThank you Martha Ellen. I am not that close as we have a 400 mm lens. That must have been an amazing sight to see your deer swimming. You have a lovely week also.
DeleteThey are lovely creatures, the first photograph is my favourite.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Thank you Jan, that's my favorite too. All the best to you :)
