HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE - A FEW PICS TO BRING A SMILE

 I found these online. They have been making the rounds for a while, so you may have seen some already, hopefully not all. Words added below each picture for international blogging friends to translate with the translation gadget on my sidebar. Enjoy! 

I waited until my human left the room and ate an entire FAMILY SIZED PIZZA by myself.

Now that the snow is melting I’ve finally figured out where all my socks have gone.

Self explanatory.

The next one is amusing but trying to get the point across for those who think these beautiful animals are cute, cuddly, fluffy cows instead of wild animals. They need their own space, a lot of it! The park officials recommend keeping a distance of 100 feet and view from the safety of your vehicle. I can attest to the fact that they can travel 100 feet in no time at all when running, and sometimes it's a good thing to keep the engine running.

When you say you are going to take an hour nap and wake up nine hours later.

"Stop selling vacuums."

"Dog: I welcomed the hedgehog to her new home by trying to eat her. My mom spent an hour plucking quills out of me.

Hedgehog: I chase the dog around the house because he’s scared of me now."

I terrorize tiny humans and corner the neighbors for fun.

I snuck into my mom’s horse trailer and joined her on a three hour road trip to her next rodeo. Hotels are awesome. I should do this more often.

She’s keeping him company.

A SHORT CHILDREN'S STORY FROM DENISE

Grandfather came to visit today, a dear and kind man with a sweet smile. After an hour her Daddy left them in the garden so that they could get to know each other a little more. Grandfather lived very far away, and she had been a baby when he visited last. They sat on a blanket placed on the grass and shared a pot of tea and shortbread. 

Grandfather was curious about her garden friends Rabbit and Hedgehog. He wanted to know how long had she been able to understand them? She told him since she was a little girl. He chuckled and said that must have been a very long time ago. “I have known them forever” she said. 

Grandfather told her how much she reminded him of her Grandmother, Daddy’s Mother. She had the same smile, and the color of her hair and eyes were similar, that she had also understood her animals when she was a child. 

He asked if Rabbit and Hedgehog had names, and she told him no, they hadn’t chosen ones for themselves yet, and were content to be called Rabbit and Hedgehog. They listened to everything she had to say and she listened to them. She knew one day they would leave, but for now the three of them kept each other company, and they had wonderful conversations. “They are my family as Daddy is, and as you are Grandfather."

Her Daddy had given Darling Little Girl several rabbits for pets during her life, from the time she was a baby. She had learned how to take care of them and keep them safe. However, she didn’t like to keep them locked up. 

Daddy had built them homes and lined them with the softest hay. These homes were like mini mansions, small to us but not to them.  They were very comfortable and didn’t let in the cold during the winter, even on the coldest day. He always made sure they were snug and cozy. One morning, however, she decided it was time to open their doors and set them free. She didn’t just consider them as pets, they were her family, and you don’t lock your family up in cages she told her Grandfather. He agreed with her wholeheartedly.  

Her rabbits didn’t all leave, Rabbit stayed. After a day of exploration, he said to himself, "Okay, that's enough." He returned to the garden, jumped up on her lap and had been with her ever since. Hedgehog arrived soon after. Each day at teatime you will find them in this spot chatting away and telling each other the day’s happenings.

Grandfather asked Darling Little Girl what she thought if he were to move here, to live with her and Daddy. She did not hesitate, gave him a big hug and told him he had made her heart very happy. His smile matched her own. Between them they could have lit up the sun. Rabbit and Hedgehog could see their joy and they were happy also.

Sensing what they were about to tell her, Darling Little Girl turned to her furry family and they told her it was time. She was not sad she told them, as she knew other little girls and boys needed them as much as she had. She was happy that they would be taking care of those who needed them the most.

They did not say goodbye. Rabbit and Hedgehog knew that one day they would be back for tea and shortbread, to listen to the stories of another Darling Little Girl. She would look very much like her Grandmother, with the same smile, and similar color of hair and eyes. She would also be able to understand them as her Grandmother had, and her Grandmother before her.

As Grandfather and Darling Little Girl went into the house to be with Daddy, they closed the door behind them and laughter was heard. Rabbit looked at Hedgehog, and Hedgehog looked at Rabbit. They smiled and were content. It was time to hop through the gate, knowing that one day after having many adventures with other darling children, they would return.

ODDS AND BODS

Gregg wanted a submarine sandwich yesterday, so we drove over to check Santini’s out. It had been a while. We both ordered the small, Gregg a cold-cut and me steak and cheese.  We gave both our choices a 10 out of 10.  There is a pickle spear on each plate.  Not too keen on pickles, so I gave mine to hubs. He also purchased a (popular brand) packet of plain potato chips. I didn’t like those either so told him he was welcome to my half. 

When we first arrived, a man wanted to get into his car but he very politely waited for me to get out. I was on the passenger side. I said to him, “Thank you!” and Siri answered back in a loud Siri voice, “You are welcome!”  I must have had the sound turned up at its peak as it was loud and she startled both of us. Man looked surprised and initially looked puzzled at the ventriloquist before him. I told him that was my phone talking for me. I had it in my hand and showed him. 

(She is always listening as she has done this before. Gregg will sometimes be saying something and all of a sudden his phone will join in with some information or other on the topic we are talking about.  Hmmm…I still find it a bit freaky-deaky.) I got out of the car, both man and woman (me) rolled our eyes to the skies.  “Modern technology huh?” he said, and we shook our heads as we passed each other.

I found a couple of copycat recipes.

Hopefully you can enlarge the recipes to read them better. 

I think I would check with a professional before following these, or maybe some of you have had experience?  I know from a family member who swears by ginger tea, oil of cloves my parents used when needed for tooth pain. All natural remedies here. Don’t know about the others though. I would perhaps try them myself, except for the cuts and burns and using turmeric.   Next time I go to the doctors, I am showing them these to see what they say. Always curious about the old remedies.

DO YOU GET HEDGEHOGS?

My parents had a hedgehog family take up residence in their garden for several years.  I thought of them when I found this information online. A friend of mine (in the UK) has a family in her garden. She takes very good care of them, as my parents did theirs years previously. 

I cancelled out of the website and realized later I had forgotten to make a note of it and its author. If I come across it again, I will come back and add it.  It seemed important enough to go ahead and share, for those of you who see them in their natural habitat. If there are any hedgehog experiences you have had, I would love to know about them.  

Wikipedia has interesting information about them at this link. According to them, “there are no hedgehogs living species native to the Americas.  However, the extinct genus Amphchinus was once present in America.”

Here’s the information I found.   

“If you find a "dead" hedgehog during the cold months, do not bury it, do not throw it in the trash...

No one wants to see a dead animal in their garden or road, but it could be a hedgehog hibernating from November to March.

They usually dig holes to stay safe, but we have less green areas, bushes or wooded areas these days and it’s becoming harder to find a safe place to spend the winter sleeping.

Some may come into your gardens seeking safety and warmth to hibernate, some are so exhausted from looking that they end up sleeping in various strange places like roadside streets or even on pavements.

When they are in hibernation, their heart rate and general body functioning slow down considerably, as a way of saving energy that can confuse a person that the hedgehog is dead.

Just in case you see a stationary hedgehog, make sure it is in a safe and warm place and that it can last five months.

If you find a hedgehog in your garden or somewhere on the street, make a hole in a cardboard box and in a dry, safe and quiet place so it can spend the cold months there.

Hedgehogs are an endangered species, they are completely harmless and very important in our ecosystem. They eat beetles, snails, frogs, lizards, snakes, including poisonous.

They also destroy mice nests.

They are not afraid of bees or wasps. The hedgehog can easily destroy a hornet's nest and eat its inhabitants by ignoring their bites.

Scientists have long noticed the immunity of hedgehogs to strong poisons, including bites from insects. This antidote phenomenon is not yet known to scientists.

Be aware when you see a hedgehog in the cold months. It costs nothing to help such a fragile wee thing.”

I like the good and the positive and these words definitely spoke to me.  I found them on one of several poetry sites a few days ago.  I am always curious about the person behind the prose, but I could not find much about her life, other than the fact she is an artist and has an online catalog called Sugarboo & Company, which you can find at this link if interested.  Even when I don’t buy, I enjoy browsing.  

In her own words from the website:

"My name is Rebecca Puig and I'm the artist behind Sugarboo & Co. In case you were wondering, "Sugarboo" came from a couple of nicknames I have for my children, Jake and Sophie. They are the main inspiration for Sugarboo because I always want to create products that remind us of the ones we love."
