This poem, shared in good humor, tickled my funny bone when I read it originally.

When I'm an old lady, I'll live with each kid,
And bring so much happiness just as they did.
I want to pay back all the joy they've provided.
Returning each deed, Oh, they'll be so excited!
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids...)
I'll write on the walls with reds, whites and blues,
And bounce on the furniture....wearing my shoes.
I'll drink from the carton and then leave it out.
I'll stuff all the toilets and oh, how they'll shout!
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids...)
When they're on the phone and just out of reach,
I'll get into things like sugar and bleach.
Oh, they'll snap their fingers and then shake their head,
And when that is done, I'll hide under the bed.
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids...)
When they cook dinner and call me to eat,
I'll not eat my green beans or salad or meat.
I'll gag on my okra, spill milk on the table,
And when they get angry...I'll run...if I'm able!
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids...)
I'll sit close to the TV, through the channels I'll click.
I'll cross both eyes just to see if they stick.
I'll take off my socks and throw one away,
And play in the mud 'til the end of the day!
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids...)
And later in bed, I'll lay back and sigh,
I'll thank God in prayer and then close my eyes.
My kids will look down with a smile slowly creeping,
And say with a groan, "She's so sweet when she's sleeping!"
Thanks for looking everyone,
and I hope your Sunday is a great one.
Love it! I wouldn't like to live my kids, too noisy.
ReplyDeleteThat's great and LOL about your kids. I like a quiet life too :)
DeleteYou're sweet all the time.
ReplyDeleteThat's sweet of you to say Carol but there are times, smiling here. Sometimes I feel I take after my dear Dad. I always called him a lovable grump, but he was the best, more smiling and I still miss him.
DeleteYour playful vision of being an old lady brings a delightful sense of humor and whimsy. The anticipation of reversing roles with your children, and indulging in mischievous antics, is wonderfully entertaining. The lightheartedness with which you describe these future moments is heartwarming and endearing
ReplyDeleteA lovely comment but this is a playful vision thanks to the author. I was just lucky enough to find her lovely poem to share. It is wonderfully entertaining isn't it? Beautifully put!

DeleteLove your poem. It reminds me of something my father said. He said he would levy us a small amount each week - and would go and live with anyone who didn't pay their dues. Both my youngest brother and I promised we would pay in advance.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, so glad you do. And I love what your father said. Sounds like he had a delightful sense of humor :)

ReplyDeletethe toilet reminded me of an incident a professor I worked with told me about. Any time he was asked if he had children he would reply no I have 3 boys.
He and his wife returned from a trip to find the loo sitting at the top of the stairs...3 teenage boys left alone for a few days is not a good idea.
Of course there was a very LOUD WHY IS THE LOO SITTING THERE.
Turns out the middle boy decided to put a cherry bomb in the upstairs loo
Well we all know that out come. I hope down the road when they live with the middle boy they destroy his loo too.
Hugs Cecilia
Oh my word, what a caper Cecilia and that's hilarious, no I don't have three children, I have three boys, LOL! I don't know quite what I would have done with that one. No, I don't think I would have left them on their own either but what a great story!!! Thanks for sharing that. Sending hugs!
DeleteThank you.

ReplyDeleteHappy you think so. Thank you Linda :)
DeleteI've read this one before and I love it. Unfortunately my kids will never understand being out of reach while on the phone. I remember a time when I was making an important phone call and while I could see Amanda playing in the kitchen she was out of reach. I watched in horror as she pulled things out of the cupboard and dumped them on the floor. I can't remember what it was but I do remember it was messy.
ReplyDeleteWe can laugh now. I have a story like that involving a 5 lb. bag of flour all over the kitchen. I have a photo somewhere. Thanks for the reminder Ann :)
