If you didn't see it, this post will tell you why.
And that I do! Some see them as tree rats, I see them as my furry family. Nanny (my father's mother who passed this love of animals to him, and him to me) would be proud.
Mother was a good sport about it all. She grew up with no family pets but when she married, let's just say it came with the territory. But she was happy to take care of the family cat and dogs and the zillion rabbits Dad made hutches for outside. He was working and away from home a lot, and it fell to Mum to take care of everything. With a few eye-rolls no doubt - yes, I am empathizing. We helped when we could, but you know how that goes with kids. Thanks Mum!
Smiling. And sharing your love of critters.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sue :) happy this brings a smile.
DeleteI too love our wild, furry critters!! (My son feeds his squirrels by hand.)
ReplyDeleteAh, a kindred spirit, lovely! Love the idea of your son feeding them by hand too :)
DeleteLove the halo. I always enjoy watching the squirrels. They are so entertaining.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ann, they are very entertaining indeed :)
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteYou are kind and sweet to feed the squirrels. The photos are adorable.
Take care, enjoy your day and week ahead.
I do my best Eileen :) I think they need all the help they can get during the winter. Thank you and I wish you the same :)
DeleteI love this darling post - yes when I lived up north I feed birds and squirrels. There are very few squrrels in my neighborhood. Florida isn't a great tree place I guess. Your furry friend is happy with his food.
ReplyDeleteThank you Carol, so glad :) and he certainly is. I will be very happy to get down to Florida one day, to see the wildlife that you have down there. Pretty spectacular for birds and especially exciting to see the kind I don't get to see up here.
DeleteLovely!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Anne :)
DeleteI am with you on loving squirrels and basically anything with fur and feathers.
ReplyDeleteExactly my thoughts Rose, thank you :)
DeleteThank you for sharing your love of animals, Denise. I'm right up there with you! It is a privilege to see any animal that passes through our yard. Squirrels are one of the cutest and most agile ones! Your little angel is a sweetie pie.
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome Martha Ellen and thank you :) That's a great way of putting it, I feel the same way.
DeleteI am quite fond of squirrels.
ReplyDeleteMe too William, very fond of them.
DeleteWhat's a mum to do? She did well.
ReplyDeleteThanks Christine, she certainly did :)
DeleteSweet visit today. Thank you D
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome Cloudia, always happy you enjoy :)
DeleteI used to love them until they started damaging my crops. Now I tolerate them but smile when I see the antics that they get up to.
ReplyDeleteNo that would put a different perspective on things Cherie :)
DeleteGostei.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e continuação de uma boa semana.

DeleteAdoring photos!
ReplyDeleteWhat a darling post!
Happy Wednesday, Denise!
Thank you so much Veronica and a Happy Wednesday to you also :)
DeleteWe live our tree rats also. Not a fan of starlings!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Yogi :) those starlings can take over a bird feeder can't they? I haven't seen any in quite a while.
DeleteI enjoy squirrels too. I have a constant "war" with them to keep them off my bird feeders, but I have already concluded that they are so much smarter than me I will never win!
ReplyDeleteThanks David, it seems we feel the same way about the raccoons being a very smart animal :) As for the squirrels, I started having the mindset that I was feeding them as well as the birds a long time ago. I just buy extra seed. I bought several squirrel proof feeders in the beginning that never worked, they always found their way, and they both paid me back with the hours of entertainment over the years :)
DeleteI enjoy squirrels too! I'm like your mom -- not really an animal-loving family growing up but Bill was. We even had the rabbit hutches too when our kids were growing up and from personal experience, I'm pretty sure your childhood included your mom's occasional eyerolls. But also sure that like me now, she ended up grateful to have been introduced to the love of all animals!
ReplyDeleteCouldn't have put it better myself Sallie, thank you and Mum would thank you too :) I wish I could tell her how much I appreciated her for all the things she did for us.
DeleteI love them too. I'm not thrilled about them in the bird feeders (and this year, for whatever reason, they have left it alone) but I throw out acorns and nuts when I can and I love to watch them play!
ReplyDeleteThat's great Jeanie, and that's interesting that they have left your feeders alone :)
DeleteHa! Yes it falls to mom more than not! Cute squirrel.
ReplyDeleteAlways and thanks Ellen :)
DeleteI'm quite fond of them.
ReplyDeleteThey are very easy to be fond of aren't they? Thanks William!
