KEEPING MY EYE ON YOU...

If you didn't see it, this post will tell you why.

And that I do!  Some see them as tree rats, I see them as my furry family.  Nanny (my father's mother who passed this love of animals to him, and him to me) would be proud.

Mother was a good sport about it all.  She grew up with no family pets but when she married, let's just say it came with the territory.  But she was happy to take care of the family cat and dogs and the zillion rabbits Dad made hutches for outside.  He was working and away from home a lot, and it fell to Mum to take care of everything.  With a few eye-rolls no doubt - yes, I am empathizing.  We helped when we could, but you know how that goes with kids.  Thanks Mum!

  5. I love this darling post - yes when I lived up north I feed birds and squirrels. There are very few squrrels in my neighborhood. Florida isn't a great tree place I guess. Your furry friend is happy with his food.

    1. Thank you Carol, so glad :) and he certainly is. I will be very happy to get down to Florida one day, to see the wildlife that you have down there. Pretty spectacular for birds and especially exciting to see the kind I don't get to see up here.

  7. Thank you for sharing your love of animals, Denise. I'm right up there with you! It is a privilege to see any animal that passes through our yard. Squirrels are one of the cutest and most agile ones! Your little angel is a sweetie pie.

  10. I used to love them until they started damaging my crops. Now I tolerate them but smile when I see the antics that they get up to.

    1. Thanks Yogi :) those starlings can take over a bird feeder can't they? I haven't seen any in quite a while.

  14. I enjoy squirrels too. I have a constant "war" with them to keep them off my bird feeders, but I have already concluded that they are so much smarter than me I will never win!

    1. Thanks David, it seems we feel the same way about the raccoons being a very smart animal :) As for the squirrels, I started having the mindset that I was feeding them as well as the birds a long time ago. I just buy extra seed. I bought several squirrel proof feeders in the beginning that never worked, they always found their way, and they both paid me back with the hours of entertainment over the years :)

  15. I enjoy squirrels too! I'm like your mom -- not really an animal-loving family growing up but Bill was. We even had the rabbit hutches too when our kids were growing up and from personal experience, I'm pretty sure your childhood included your mom's occasional eyerolls. But also sure that like me now, she ended up grateful to have been introduced to the love of all animals!

  16. I love them too. I'm not thrilled about them in the bird feeders (and this year, for whatever reason, they have left it alone) but I throw out acorns and nuts when I can and I love to watch them play!
