A quote I learned recently when looking and reading how the design came together for our new First Lady's Inaugural gown. I look forward to seeing it at the Smithsonian National History Museum in Washington DC one day, where it will be on display with all the other First Ladies Gowns. (The post I shared about our last visit to that exhibit can be seen here if you missed it.)
This wonderful quote is hand-embroidered in the gown's lining. Mrs. Biden is a teacher and still intends to teach even now. The quote struck me as very profound and reads as follows:
"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn."
From Founding Father, Benjamin Franklin.
This is a wonderful quote! I never did see her gown...it was cold and she had her coat on all the time. All I could tell was that it matched the coat and shoes.
ReplyDeleteIt was a short gown, like a cocktail dress if it is the one I am thinking about. Perfect for an occasion with no inaugural ball because of the pandemic. It had all the state wildflowers embroidered on it, the bottom of that beautiful white coat also. The description read that embroidered state flowers were placed along the organza bodice and sleeves. The Delaware state flower, the peach blossom, was positioned purposefully above Biden's heart. A very nice though I thought.
DeleteThat is SUCH a powerful truth.
ReplyDeleteAnd there is always time for books here.
Always :) Thanks EC!
DeleteHow interesting Denise.
ReplyDeleteGlad you thought so Christine :)
DeleteIt's a good quote. Franklin was a master of good quotes.

Deletei did not see the gown but fell in love with the coat and dress she wore for the ceremony. i just looked up the three things she wore on line and did not care for the white dress at all. the coat that matched i like, but not the dress. the red dress and the blue dress i love... the quote is perfect
