This is an old post from a road trip we took in 2009. I spotted these young men when we were vacationing on the west coast. The town was Mendocino, California, and they were walking along on the other side of the road, deep in friendly conversation. They had a nice aura and I liked the look of them, hence the photo and the quotes.
Me, I'm just this person Myself, born an individual

We used to say to our son, be yourself, and don't follow the crowd if that crowd is doing something your instincts tell you is wrong.
Like many parents here and around the world, we planted those seeds early, and are very grateful they didn't hit stony ground.
I love the feathers in his cap!!

DeleteBeing yourself in the world is constantly challenged..I have never owned a smart phone in my 50 years of life and don't plan to do it in future...but it's just difficult these days when I was trying to make a call without a mobile phone because all the public phone boots ain't there anymore.
ReplyDeleteYou are right Angie and very much an individual :) I have a smart phone, remember not wanting one when they first arrived and it stayed in the box for the longest time. But, gradually and ever so slowly, I find myself not wanting to be without it. I also remember being shocked that the telephone booths were disappearing
Deletei love this denise...and isn't it nice to see them walking and talking and not on their cell phones. they do have a great vibe, individuals for sure!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Debbie, so happy you enjoyed them :)
DeleteI love this Denise. We always wished the same for our children. I'm so thankful they took that advice. It would be a shame to waste our uniqueness.
ReplyDeleteOh most definitely Martha Ellen, our uniqueness is so important. Thank you :)
