DENISE'S 70TH BIRTHDAY

Two days ago I celebrated my 70th birthday.  And as many must ask, where did all those years go?  I don't worry about aging, in fact I found it painless, this as I keep my fingers crossed.  When hubs asked me if I felt like 70, I looked at him and said I didn't feel any different than when I was 69.  Perhaps I had a wry smile when I said that, plus added baggage, a few more wrinkles, okay a lot of each😉

A memory of a friend who was older than I just came to me, when years ago she got out of her seat and groaned.  I remember her looking up at me as I voiced my concern for her well-being, and she said, "Don't worry, at this age we come with sound effects."  We both laughed.  She was 70!  Well, now I am at that age where I come with sound effects, quite often as a matter of fact.  But I still feel like I am 30 in my head, so I don't worry about it.

That's not to say I take anything for granted, especially in this day and age when there are so many who are having such a hard time.  I'm not going to get maudlin but I said to myself a long time ago that I was going to enjoy each new day.  And yes there have been days when it has rained, figuratively speaking, quite hard but I made up my mind to try and find as much happiness in the next sunrise as I could.

I am blessed with a dear family and many good friends.  There is a roof over our heads and food on the table, and we try to help others whenever we can.  My greatest blessing is to have a sweet husband, an equally sweet son who brought into the family our daughter-in-law whom we have grown to love as our own, and there are family members I am very close to.

Saccharin-fest over, because today I feel like it, no apologies. Tomorrow I may reach for my 🐻grumpy mug🐻 who knows!  Yes I jest but I am far from perfect, you just never know.
Here are a few photos from yesterday.  I started off with the bouquet hubs gave me, and here are two more.

"If we could see the miracle of a single flower, clearly our whole life would change."

Here are my "flowers".  They asked me what I wanted for my birthday and I jokingly said, "Bring wine!"  I was joking but not really and they know me well. They stopped off to pick up....
a bottle of Prosecco and this pretty wine glass, along with some fancy dark chocolate truffles. They were so good!
And the sparkly design on the wine glass was a nod to my roots.  Loved it and its new home will be displayed in pride of place in the china cabinet.  The truffles are no longer around. I am glad I took one photo to show how pretty they were.  There were five in a box, don't judge!  Hubs is not a chocolate lover and my ‘flowers’ would not take one, saying they were mine to enjoy, and I surely did.
So there you go, that was my birthday.  Sorry for the ramble but it was a ramble kind of a day today as I become more reflective.

Thank you for stopping by, and have a great weekend.

  1. Happy Happy Birthday!!! With each passing year, I groan a bit louder when getting up and down! The flowers are beautiful. Don't think I have ever seen a rose this color, and it is so full. What an adorable baby you were! And you are still adorable, but much wiser.

  8. My favorite picture is the mini me at the end that is so precious and it one time in my life I had a coat just like that mine was pale blue I think. My favorite flowers today are the two masks flowers that's a precious picture and they did really good with your present. Happy belated birthday I remember when I turn 70 and 71 and 72 and 73 and 74 and 75 and in just a few weeks 76. I still feel in my head like I'm 40 but I do come with sound effects

  13. Hi Denise,
And congratulation in reaching this age, must admit to be numerous years older but other than needing a new knee I am not bad.
our family certainly helped in the celebrations.
Hopefully we can both look forward to many more years.
You all stay safe and well.

  19. Congratulations, Denise. I am your elder by about seven months. I turned 70 in December. I, too, feel fine when I am sitting, and think I am about 40-50; it's when standing and walking that I feel every bit my 70 years and more. I absolutely love dark chocolate--milk chocolate is too sweet. I would have eaten the whole box as well. The wine glass is beautiful. I'm glad you had a good day.

    1. Hi Beth, and thank you :) Dark chocolate is a taste that came later in life to me, I think it is delicious, and healthier so I am told :) I appreciate you popping in to wish me a Happy Birthday, and I wish I could have wished you a Happy 70th also, but I will say it belatedly. Happy Birthday :)

  25. Happy belated birthday, Denise! You have everything anyone would need in life; what beautiful gifts. I like your family “flowers” the best. Incidentally, I would love to know how they keep their glasses from fogging up with masks on. Lately, it’s been my mission to find out. :))

  28. I'm glad you enjoyed such lovely birthday celebrations with your treasured family. I tried the sound effects line on my daughter yesterday and she replied I'd had them for years, but they are now so loud even I can hear them! I think the worst part of ageing would be loss of sense of humour, I wonder what age that kicks in? Or maybe it never does. So much still to learn! Happy days!

Happy days to you also :)
