CAN YOU IMAGINE?

Can you imagine,

For example, what the trees do
Not only in lightning storms
or the watery dark of a summer's night,
or under the white nets of winter
but now, and now, and now - whenever
we're not looking?  Surely you can't imagine
they don't dance, from the roots up, wishing
to travel a little, not cramped so much as wanting
a better view, or more sun, or just as avidly
more shade - surely you can't imagine they just
stand there loving every minute of it,
the birds or the emptiness, the dark rings
of the years slowly and without a sound
thickening, and nothing different unless the wind,
and then only in its own mood, comes
to visit, surely you can't imagine
patience, and happiness, like that.

Can you imagine?

    1. I agree, the sky was perfect. I remember sitting on a bench hoping for a bird or two to come within camera range, and I looked up. The sun was directly overhead, the sun shining on the camera lens. I moved a little to put the sun behind a branch, and this is how it came out. Glad you liked it Debbie, thank you :)

  9. Hi Denise,
I have been out this afternoon and it's been very windy, having watched the trees swaying, and then to read those lovely words, magical.

  10. Thank you, Denise. I love Mary Oliver's poems. And the tree in your photo could well be whispering the words. There is another poem about trees I must look up.

  11. Makes a person look at trees in a totally different way, if one hasn't already.
