FOR THE LOVE OF CHILDREN

"Teaching Your Child Through Play"

I tried to teach my child with books
He gave me only puzzled looks.

I tried to teach my child with words.
They passed him by often unheard.

Despairingly, I turned aside.
"How shall I teach this child?" I cried.

Into my hand he put the key,
"Come," he said, "play with me."

Thanks for looking and have a great day!

  2. The only play kids are interested in these days is their phone....when I was kid, we played outside with neighbours' kids and I don't think I have ever owned any dolls or toys...nature was our playground.

  3. P.S. Playing with kids teaches them sharing, patience, fairness, respecting differences, just so much!

    1. I agree David and it is so important for adults to get in touch with their inner child. The best way to play with our children.

  10. This is an excellent point. I also am saddened by the fact children don't play like they used to. My son is Gen X and I think they were the last to have what I will call a normal childhood.

    1. Thank you Sandra, he was a darling little boy and was having so much fun on that bike :) Mom's who go out to work shouldn't be so hard on themselves and none of us are perfect. We're all learning.

  13. I 100% agree with the play. I cannot tell you how many hours my daughter and I spent playing Barbies and puzzles. Now my daughter has such a command of colors,
shapes styles. I attribute to her fascination with Barbie's She would often ask me if I could make thus and so for her Barbies. She designed new clothes with remnants out of my fabric stash.

  15. Haha ... love the little Denise drawing. Marvelous poem. Engaging with children is, indeed, the key. It is a bit disappointing to see so many people wrapped up in their iPhones and ignoring not only the scenery but the kids at their side and in their care.

  18. Well, this poem hit home for me, Denise, as I was a stay at home mom and with my kids all day, every day, taking care of them, reading to them, playing with them. I didn't have a lot of alone time, but I wouldn't change this time for the world. Thank you for sharing and bringing back some sweet memories for me.
