FROM THE TROUBLES OF THE WORLD...

The above reads:

"From the troubles of the world I turn to ducks, beautiful, comical things."

by

The quote I used comes from a wonderful poem that can be seen in full at this link.

Frederick William Harvey, DCM (March 26, 1888 - February 13, 1957) was born in Hartpury, Gloucestershire, UK. Often known as Will Harvey, he was an English poet, broadcaster and solicitor. His poetry became widely popular during and after World War I.

You can read more about him if you click on his name below the quote.

It is good that everyone translates the sufferings of the world into what they can bear!! Good morning Denis!!

  2. Oh my goodness!! I read the entire poem and loved it! I knew I would, as you always find the best poems and the kind that I love. One thing the poem talks about is how defenseless they are, and we have always said that! That is one of their most endearing things. Seems there are not very animals without some form of defense.

    1. That's wonderful Ginny, so glad you enjoyed it and thank you for the nice compliment. I read my poetry books like novels and always enjoy, especially when I find that special poem that speaks to me :) You are very correct about animals defenses, very few don't have one, though I saw a mother duck go after a hawk once that was trying to take away one of her babies. She was fearless and quite able. The hawk actually got dunked under the water several times and was rescued from drowning by a passerby. It was quite a sight! Where their babies are concerned, all fight with a mighty heart.

    1. That's wonderful David, I am so glad and happy to have introduced someone new to you. One of the reasons I love blogging is that I can visit blogs, yours for instance, and receive a wonderful lesson on the natural world. Yours is like that. Poems are like that to me :)

    1. Me too Jeanie :) I have said it before but when I get out and walk through woods or look over water, seeing all the wildlife around these places, I am totally at peace and that's no exaggeration. Watching the backyard birds has that effect too.

  11. Going out and simply observing nature whether it is ducks or simply water flowing over rocks is always very relaxing. I do enjoy watching waterfowl in the spring. :)

  15. I especially like seeing ducks rise out of the water to fly, like clockwork toys. It looks if they'll never stay up, until they do.

  16. It is definitely something sweet to turn to from the harshness of the world. I just saw some yesterday at the lake. It was a wonderful sight. And so calming looking out to nature.

  18. Ducks are cute. I got out of the car today to take pictures of some ducks, and they mistook me for someone who feeds them and came running up. Then one of them nipped me! I got back in the car and he looked like he was gonna jump in there for a minute.

    1. Oh my goodness, that would have sent me back to the car too, lol! I was once chased by a line of hungry wild chickens after getting out to take photos of them. Luckily I was right next to the car and jumped back in. I had rolled down the window. I'm sure if I hadn't quickly rolled it back up, they would have jumped in :) Being nipped by a duck can be very painful!
