ODDS AND BODS - 12/23/25 - THE COMFY RABBITS ARE HERE

Good morning everyone! How are you?

1.

Here I am in my woollies, and a cup of tea is warming me up nicely, but I have really got to get moving.

2.

I’m getting there but first…

3.
(Further: pronounced "OH-lay-loo. It is a beautiful Finnish word describing a state of calm, unhurried relaxation, simply existing in the moment without agenda or pressure to do something; it's about embracing stillness, serenity and being present, often through quiet activities like reading or enjoying a cup of tea. It comes from the Finnish verb "oleilla" meaning "to be,: and reflects a cultural appreciation for mindful, intentional downtime, a contrast to a constantly busy world.)

In my land of dreams today, I would dearly love to hug my brother the grizzly bear.
4.

and poking a little fun at myself here.
5.

Very important!
6.

From my all-time favorite poet.
7.

A gift from hubs for our Christmas tree, from the garden center I shared about, a lovely surprise to find it after we got home. He saw me looking at it. What do you know, they had a tree full of bird ornaments too. Maybe after the holidays to see what's on sale? That's always fun!
8.

And here he is, now on our tree. I'm calling him Gilbert the Canada Goose.
9.

10.

And something else for the birds. Did you know?
11.

And
12.

Well, I don’t actually live in the woods, would  love to and…

13.

14.

15.

And to finish off...for all of you.

16.

And there you go.  I hope you enjoyed.

Have a wonderful day!
Thanks for stopping by and see you tomorrow.

For our international friends to translate, below each image I have added a number. Below I have the words on that particular image, in case you would like to translate any of them. I have also numbered photos with no words, just for continuity.

1.
No words.

2.
No words.

3.
Oleilu: a calm, unhurried state of simply being, not about doing, achieving, or planning, but the quiet act of existing in the moment.

4.
No words.

5.
Sometimes I talk to myself. Then we both laugh and laugh.

6.
"When you think of everyone you love..." said the fox, "I hope you include yourself."

7.
"Let me keep my distance,
always, from those who think
they have the answers.

Let me keep company
always with those who say
"Look!"
and laugh in astonishment,
and bow their heads."

~Mary Oliver~

8.
No words.

9.
No words.

10.
Something told the wild geese
It was time to go.
Though the fields lay golden,
Someone whispered, -- 'snow'.
Leaves were green and stirring,
Berries luster glossed,
But beneath warm feathers
Something cautioned, - 'frost!'
All the sagging orchards steamed
With amber spice but each wild
Breast stiffened at remember, - 'ice'.
Something told the wild geese
It was time to fly, -
Summer sun was on their
Wings, winter in their cry.

(1934)

11.
Brainy Little Birdies!
Chickadees can remember 1,000 + hiding spots!
Each winter, they stash seeds all over and can recall nearly every location months later. That's a memory trick most humans wish they had.

12.
Cut the Fall (Autumn) Cutback
Those 'dead' seed heads are a buffet for migrating birds. Leave them standing and your garden becomes a free winter bird feeder.

13.
The older I get, the more I understand why people live in the woods and talk to squirrels.

14.
So she’s like, GET OFF THE COUNTER” and I’m like “Do I look like I am taking orders?”

16.
Thank you for being a generous soul and a beautiful spirit in a world that could use a million like you. Thanks so much for everything you have done, and for all that you continue to do.  You’re the best and you’re appreciated more than I can say.

With my thanks to Pinterest for the inspiration.

POSITIVITY POST - A POEM - I MAY NOT…

I may not see all the seeds I scatter

But I know where I stand.

I stretch to make the world a better place

And lend a helping hand.

I help the dreamers to dream

And the songbirds to sing:

From my branches they leap

And learn to first trust their wing.

When they fall I am here,

They speak and I care.

I tell them - “Go into the world

And your bright talents share!”

It’s an encouraging thing to hear

At the end of a rough day.

I know in time their fruits will come

I’m just glad that through their journey I can help out some.

I am thankful for those who years ago planted me,

And helped me to become

A helping tree.

The Helping Tree by Dallin Candland

The author is a person of deep faith. Even those who are of different beliefs will appreciate this poem, for its message is universal. We could all be a Helping Tree, many already are and hopefully everyone has known someone like that in their lives, or if they haven't, have tried to be one.

I found this delightful picture on Pinterest and went searching for a poem that would best express it. I found Dallin's poem and thought it powerfully positive. I am always trying to pass on the positivity and most definitely living in hope for a kinder tomorrow. There are many kind people out there already and I am going to try and find their stories.

HOW ABOUT MEETING BUFFALO BILL BUNNY AGAIN?

I have not gotten out to take any photos lately so I am thankful I can go to my old blog and find something for you. One of my favorites popped up, a bunny we found while on a road trip in September 2013. Meet Buffalo Bill Bunny. We found him in a quiet area of the garden when visiting the Buffalo Bill Center in Cody, Wyoming, which you can look at here.

Buffalo Bill Cody is famous worldwide. I remember my father telling me stories about him as a child. Dad was a big western fan and new all about Buffalo Bill's Wild West Tours in the UK, stories he had read when he was a young lad. That was the first time I had ever heard of this famous showman. You can read a biography at this link.

His namesake, Buffalo Bill Bunny wanted me to tell you "Howdy!"

He was a bit too busy to get into an in-depth conversation...

but told me he was very happy I had named him so auspiciously.

I couldn't interest him in any kind of conversation. That grass was just too tasty.

An addition to my post on Saturday, September 7th, 2024. There is another from this center that I published on Annie Oakley.  She was a very popular performer at Buffalo Bill's Wild West Tours. You can see that post at this link.

Thanks for hopping by and
I hope your week has gone well.

ODDS AND BODS - 9/3/24

The beginning of today’s post, apart from the cutie above, is for the kitty lovers out there.

 How about learning the…

Or being…

Well, I never!

There are those days that…

The spirit is willing but…

How about a well-read rabbit?

And yes, children can learn from us, but we can learn so much from them.

For the J. R. R. Tolkien fans out there.

I read something very interesting about author, J. R. R. Tolkien. His mother, Mabel Tolkien, died when her son was 12. She cultivated his natural fascination with languages. He went on to master more than a dozen languages and then created several Elvish languages of his own. He learned Middle English, Old English, Finnish, Greek, Latin, Italian, Old Norse, Spanish, Welsh, Danish, Norwegian, Russian, Swedish and could understand older forms of modern Germanic and Slavonic languages. Amazing!

My neighbors just turned up. Time to put the kettle on!

With no disrespect intended to my other guests, Mr. Grizzly had such good table manners.

More fun with food.

And another.

Colder days and nights will be here soon.

Or this, because the holidays will soon be here too.

I haven’t tried any of these recipes yet, but they all sound good.

How about those Apples? According to this website there are over 30,000 apple varieties in the world.

I have not tried this either but it sounds wonderful!

If you go to this link, it shares several (not all) and tells you about each one

Now for a few wise words.

And…

Very true!

Here is my fantasy cottage. I am very happy where I live I hasten to add, but I do love these older places.

I can see this fitting in there somewhere.

I would definitely have this in my fantasy garden, and with a view like that.

That’s all for today, and until next time…

From the lady who just had to have that
extra cup of coffee this morning.

Happy September!
