BIRD CHATTER POST AND A VERY HAPPY FIRST DAY OF NOVEMBER

Inside voices please!

Maybe, but that's how it goes on a Saturday Morning at the Bird Feeder.

Thanks for looking, and if you had one, I hope your Halloween went well. We had 17 little Trick o'Treaters and the doorbell stopped ringing at about 8.00 p.m.

The numbers are going down, kids are getting older. It seems also that people are holding more Halloween parties these days for their kiddos. But the ones who turned up looked darling dressed in their costumes. Some quite elaborate (one daddy was heard to say, "You've got to take off your proton pack son", whatever that is.

There were princesses in pretty sparkly dresses, and others just wearing a cute Halloween headband (kudos to that mom, or dad). The oldest threesome (girls) were about 12 years' old. All who rang the bell were very polite. Even the three-year-old who turned up at the door with her parents behind her, said thank you when she left and only took one piece of candy. In fact, all of them followed the rules, even when offered more.

We have a load of candy left. Temptation and willpower is being held back for the time being. We will see what tomorrow brings.

Have a great weekend everyone!

In case you saw my Sunday post, I did my usual published too early trick. I yanked it back this time. It will be there again on its proper publishing time, Sunday (though it has probably popped up in the reading list). Sorry about that.

For our international friends to translate:

1st Photo
"Someone is trying to make our space look more pleasing to us birds."
"She gave us extra!"

2nd Photo
"That's very nice but I am only interested in the birdseed."
"And a pumpkin. I don't think it's real though."

3rd Photo
"A bit much?"

SATURDAY MORNING AT THE BIRD FEEDER - WHERE ARE THEY ALL?

That's supposed to be sunflower 'chips' and hearts but Camera Lady has been very proud of her long nails lately. After all these years they are longer than she has ever had. The only problem is she keeps leaving out, or typing the wrong letters. Sometimes she catches them, sometimes she doesn't. Onwards!

Not even Blessed Squirrel will eat at her table.

She is getting a bit frustrated that they won't eat her seed. She and the Mister have been going through the reasons. Old food? Nope, it's a new bag. Bird feeder smells of predatory animals, has that raccoon been by, or the fox? I haven't seen any signs of them. It's had a thorough good washing, did we rinse it well? Maybe it tastes soapy. Nope! Maybe we should put it back on the bench? Are we overthinking this? Yep!

Froggies3 have been very sympathetic. They are good froggies!

The second dove came up with a reason. Everyone is trying to help. It didn't help!

The last straw was...

No, she can't bake you brownies, human food's not good for you. This little finch could smell the one Mister brought her back as a surprise today.  She is trying to count calories but we won't go there. That brownie was the best she had tried in a donkey's age she told him.

It had walnuts too, little finch heard the “yippee” all the way up in the trees when he gave it to her.

And that's how it goes on this Saturday Morning at the Bird Feeder. Maybe by next week the flocks will return. Here's hoping! Otherwise, she might be baking brownies (no, not really).

Thanks for flying in

and have a great weekend.

I am a little late with the dialog from the photos. My apologies to our overseas friends who enjoy a translation.

SATURDAY MORNING AT THE BIRD FEEDER - RUFUS COMES HOME

I beg your pardon?

He's feeling a bit foggy, but Big Bunny knows where your umbrella is. It's behind Froggies3. We think the bandits were back again last night. Kissing Bunnies were knocked over and Camera Lady decided to put them on the deck this time. No table for them, even the bottom part. On the ground from now on, with space between them. A new tactic!

The umbrella was found and is back to where it should be, attached much tighter this time. The rain stopped and the sun is shining. Everyone welcomed Rufus the Red-bellied woodpecker back into the fold, and everyone was happy.

And so it goes on a Saturday Morning at the Birdfeeder.

Thanks for welcoming Rufus back and I hope your birds are singing sweet songs in your neighborhood.

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!

These are the birds that I saw out back over the last few weeks. You can click on the collage to enlarge. I changed their birdseed and added fruits and nuts, but I noticed there were those who were a no-show. I am going to add millet next time. The Northern Cardinal (thank you David - see his comment) still remains elusive. Any advice on a birdseed that works for you? I would love to know and thanks in advance.
For those of you who don't get them in your part of the world, I have named them all, adding links with more information if you click on those names.

Middle row left to right: Blue Jay, American Crow, American Goldfinch
Bottom row left to right: Carolina Wren, two more Eastern Bluebirds, Black-capped Chickadee

Thanks for looking and
have a great week.
