SATURDAY MORNING AT THE BIRD FEEDER - BIG BUNNY IS BACK

 

Hmmmm....I wonder who might do that?

Camera Lady says, though she would like to feed everyone, she is trying to protect you too, so that you won't tangle with the neighborhood pets. There's plenty of berries on the bushes, and the ground is soft, you can root for a ten-course meal.

Mr. Cardinal can affirm that those berries are very tasty, but the chipmunk is still stuffing his cheeks in his dreams. 

And so it goes on a Saturday morning at the bird feeder.

SATURDAY MORNING AT THE BIRD FEEDER - BUNNY ADDITIONS

Good luck with that Mr. Cardinal, I think this behavior is set in stone, at least in bronze! Welcome bunnies! 

The Now Outside Bunny continued: It's what Mrs. Camera Lady would like for the deck. It's giving her ideas. Lots of potted plants. Mr. Camera Man is smiling and looking at her sideways, but he's a good egg. He carried quite a few home today. They went to the flower nursery again. He is a patient man! You can tell Camera Lady I said so!

And so it goes on a Saturday Morning at the Birdfeeder.

RUNNING A FEW ERRANDS - SNOW PICTURES IN OUR AREA

I was really taken with this tire cover, so of course had to take a couple of photos. 

At one of the local shopping areas.

I like the banners for obvious reasons.

We are looking at one of the main roads from where we parked our car.  I love taking photos of trees.

Back home and more trees!

I have mentioned this before but I want to plant one this year, to replace the tree we had to cut down for safety reasons. In its peak years it was very big and lush, with branches hanging over most of the deck, and it was a great shade tree.  In the summer it made me feel like we lived in a forest far away from everything. We were also closer to the birds and squirrels. When we sat outside we heard the constant chirps and chattering.  Looking up only a few feet from our heads, they were staring down from their respective perches.  They must have felt very safe with all that cover.  It was special! A great natural privacy fence that I'm sure our neighbors appreciated too, I hope. We probably won't see a new one grow that big, but maybe our son and daughter-in-law will live here one day and they will be able to sit under it, who knows. It's a nice pipe dream.

The squirrel made me smile.  The first day when it snowed, he seemed very comfortable having shelter over his head.  That's a benefit I hadn't thought about when we purchased this garden bench/feeding table.  He had already been at the top and rearranged the trays.  We have found them on the deck a few times, and sometimes he/she or they, because we have a family of four that visit, have pushed them through the space in the rail and we have found them in the dirt.  No breakages, they bounce well!

A hawk visited in the afternoon.  It landed on the rail but thankfully it didn't stay around for long.  I love these majestic birds even though I don't want them to stay for long.  No photos, way too fast and I was too slow reacting.  They don't visit often but I have seen them for several years now quite close, resting, searching.  The backyard residents know when to make themselves scarce.

The day ended with another pretty sunset.

And guess who paid us a visit?  Our male Cardinal.  He has been missing for a couple of months, and last week he did a quick flyby over a two-day time frame, even sat on the rail for a while just looking, and now he's back. He stayed much longer and I am hoping he will keep visiting.  No mate though, soon I hope.  It's a bit messy out there but the snow is disappearing fast.  On Friday it's supposed to be getting up to 72 degrees!!!   I shall be out with all my cleaning products to give everything a good wash down, and it will be clean and tidy again.  I am going to enjoy that weather!

SATURDAY MORNING AT THE BIRD FEEDER - A BIT CONFUSED WE ARE HERE

Santa's helpers turned up at the wrong bird feeder today. That's okay, we all get a little turned around this time of the year.  

Oh dear!  Let me get you all a cup of tea and a few bickies!

Okay, so our Santa Bird Helpers may be a bit confused, but let's tell them not to worry, it will all work out.

SHARING MY COLLECTIBLES - A FEW CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS

These are from the tree we have in the family room, the one I made into a 'wings' theme. First it was just for birds, then I expanded it. Most are bird ornaments, but there are angels of course and they have wings. Santas and bears as long as they are holding birds, or something to do with birds or even butterflies, they are included. I added the butterflies because of their wings, so they made it onto the tree. The bear in the frame above isn't at our house. It was a picture scene from pixabay.com, and the frame had an opening for people to put their photos into. It is a bear ornament with cardinal shared towards the bottom of this post. 

There are a few add-ons from the same place.  They have thousands of royalty-free graphics for public use and when I have time to play, I have a lot of fun putting them together with my photos. Sometimes they come out overly busy, but I like most of them.

I can't find a couple of boxes of ornaments. My star topper is also awol. It's probably in the same box as my homemade wooden ones. I expect it's under several boxes in the basement that I don't have the energy to dig into. This year I am going to make sure everything is labeled, and I know where everything is. I thought I had done that already but apparently not.

  

The nice thing is, I found some that I had forgotten all about as they had not been out of their box for a couple of years or more.  That's the way it goes in this house, we find all eventually.

Jemima Puddle-Duck usually makes it on the tree every year and she was probably added from our time in California. I have not read any Beatrix Potter in years and had forgotten Jemima's story, but you can read a shortened account here. The bird in the green woolly hat is another mystery but is a favorite, and I only know he's been around for a long time.  

This is a new one and you might recognize the artist as his ornaments and figurines are very popular these days.

I found the bear and cardinal ornament at a gift shop on the grounds of Big Meadows Lodge.  It's an old one too.

Lastly, another oldie but goodie, a parent King Penguin with its Chick.

I played around in my ArtCard app for the next one.

That's all the ornaments for now, maybe for this year with Christmas being right around the corner.  It was a lot of fun putting them together.
