ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND - MURALS

 This was one of my two favorite murals I saw that day. I am sure I missed many but before I go again, I will find out where they are.

This is at the entrance of the US Naval Academy.

The ships were on the wall hidden by the car.

Veering away from murals for a minute, on the grounds of the academy is the statue of a goat, which is the United States Naval Academy Mascot. Its story on how it was chosen as the mascot can be read here.

The following murals were in various places heading home but on the outskirts of town, in a more industrial area. 

The next four photos of a mural painted on a wall, were done by local teenagers and they called it 'The Garden of Inclusion.' I couldn't find much about it except for a fleeting glimpse of a local newspaper article, before a pop-up appeared blocking everything and asking that I buy a four-month subscription to read it. I didn't want to do that so let it be.

"Tener Felizidad" according to google translate means "Have Happiness".

It must have been done some time ago as it seemed worn and faded.

There were good messages painted all along that wall, such as "Be Happy" and "Nosotros Somos" - "We Are".  

This was very nice but hard to photograph for one complete photo.

I missed a panel, but this was at the end and was my other favorite.

There is a YouTube at this link explaining the art, and these murals are seen.  I looked for ID and didn't find them all. This one of the young girl below is called "Girl & Angler Fish", by artist Vermelho. It can be found on the Capital Teas HQ building.

I didn't know this until searching online for info on the murals, that we were actually in the Annapolis Design District, in an industrial area bounded by West Street, Chinquapin Round Road, Legion Avenue and Forest Drive. The photo below is a painting of a fox.

What I found: "Brazilian-born artist Roberta Pardo, is the force behind this particular mural collection. Roberta, an Arundel County resident, created Urban Walls Brazil, an arts residency program that brings young, international street artists to Annapolis.

ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND - PUMPKINS AND SCARECROWS

 We were in Annapolis last Saturday, the 25th (history found here). Lampposts were decorated with scarecrows and some shops for Halloween throughout the town. Here are a few of the photos I took while driving around. This is a wider angle of the photo I shared yesterday.

I liked the positive sign in the window next door.

"Together we can, Annapolis!"

There were also very large carved pumpkins. I took a few photos but there were others further away, and we were heading out of town. This link tells you about them.

There were more scarecrows nearby...

and several others in the area but I was only able to take a few photos.

This was a flying visit but we're hoping to go back next month.

PUMPKINS AND TATTOOS

 

I don't feel quite all the way back yet, but I thought I would share a photo and a few more to come leading up to Halloween. I have missed you!

If anyone has been on the narrow streets in the older section of Annapolis, you will know that there can be traffic that will slow to a crawl, fortunately one-way traffic. I thoroughly enjoy looking at the interesting shops as we ever so slowly drive by, while trying to get out of town. I had fun taking photos here. 

I particularly liked the sign and the old bricks showing through the white paint, the Jack O'Lanterns on the steps, and the green and yellow fire hydrant, which I didn't quite get all the way in frame using my cell phone. It felt like I could almost have reached out and touched it, but my mind must have been elsewhere.  

 I won't be watching any scary movies leading up to Halloween. I am a chicken at heart, with all due respect to the dear chickens. Years ago, when he was young, son begged me to watch a Halloween movie with him, as they were normally forbidden in our place. He got to see a few at his friends' homes. Just that once I gave in but told him we would watch it together and discuss it afterwards, in case he was scared and had any questions, that we were to shut off the TV if it was too scary. That movie totally freaked me out. Well, we watched the whole thing all the way through. He went to bed and slept like a baby. I was awake all night with the lights on and I didn't sleep a wink, maybe the next night too.
