Weather forecast from yesterday February 28th to Sunday, March 8th, 2026. The weather is getting warmer.

From Sunday to Thursday I didn't write anything down. The weather was dreadful, icy wet snow overnight that fortunately didn't stick and rainy the other days. Our favorite walkabout places would have been a soggy mess.
And talking about soggy messes...
someone put the yogurt right on the edge of the top shelf, and someone else opened the fridge door and let's just say, I won't do that again. What a mess! Gregg was a really good sport about it and insisted on cleaning up. I offered advice from afar, no, not really.
Ah well, these things happen.
This old photo popped up yesterday and it caused a blast to the past conversation with hubby, chatting about each of them. We were all good friends. This is before he and I met and was taken 53 years ago. (They are the ones I went off to Austria for skiing holidays. We saved all year for those vacations and they were cheap back in those days. The hotel was great and had its own all night dance floor with a live band, and a coffee bar. So, we used to dance all night and then roll into the coffee bar without even having to go outside, from après-ski to expresso, a couple of hours sleep and then it was off to the slopes for skiing lessons. Gosh, I wish I had that energy now.)
I'm the girl top right at the back in the red and blue flowered shirt. I can't remember who took it. They chopped it off a bit at the top, but I was very happy to find this photo again. My hair always looked like I had ironed it flat but I hadn’t. I envied my friends with curlier hair. The giant hair rollers I used to endure as I slept in them, good grief they were painful. I eventually gave up on those and wore it long, flat as a poker and almost to my waist. Hippy days says I with a smile. Back then Gregg used to think yogurt was hippy food so there was already a connection, ha! We had a few laughs at our younger selves, and the stories we told each other later especially. He enjoys eating yogurt now.
Getting on about the week, we ate out a couple of times, always can remember going out to eat, nothing fancy but once to our Bahn Mi favorite for a meatball sub, which is a 40-minute drive away (good job it's not around the corner or we would be in trouble). We have one about every three months. I have mentioned them before on here.
Friday, 2-27-26 at 7:45 p.m: the other to McDonalds today, a little closer to home and that's a once-a-week thing, unless it is to another fast-food stop, like the chicken place.
Son came over last Wednesday night as he had dropped our dear d-in-l off at work. The weather was iffy so he drove her. That was a nice surprise and an extra treat one evening. He had already been over for his usual morning the previous Sunday.
Driving out of the neighborhood, we had paused a little longer at the stop sign as we thought one of these ladies was going to walk across. They didn't and continued shouting across to each other, so of course I got a photo op. They were walking their dogs and probably wanted to keep them apart.
Someone arrived this evening. I had fed the birds earlier and apart from a couple of doves that turned up in the early part of the evening, there has been silence at the bird feeder. Then about half an hour ago I heard a noise and lo and behold I looked outside and there was our little raccoon. They don't usually show up until late night time and haven't been around for a few months. This was my first sighting. The temperatures have risen and I guess this one was hungry. They, as everyone probably knows, are opportunists.

Saturday, February 28th, 2026: we got a call from our son and d-in-l. After a busy morning in Annapolis (Maryland), they had brunch at a restaurant called Miss Shirley's Cafe and sent these photos of their meal. They enjoy sharing photos too, happy to say. If you are on Facebook, you can see photos from their menu at this link. Those drinks are Bloody Marys and look like a meal. I can see from back to front, an okra, orange slice followed by a section of lime, celery stick, a green olive, a wedge of a green tomato with two slices of bacon hanging over the rim! Heck, you could just order your cocktail and that would be your meal! However, bottom left is son’s Shrimp and Grits, and bottom right is our sweet d-in-l’s Coconut Crème Stuffed French Toast with strawberries. I have just decided where my birthday meal is going to be in a few months. My conversation with waiter, “Excuse me dear, all I need is a Bloody Mary, could you throw in a slice of sweet potato?” Gregg and I had chats with family overseas and here this week also.
That's about it for now. I'm looking forward to some sunny, warm-ish days soon.
Hope you've all had a great week out there, and I'll wish you a great one ahead.
I love old photos before everyone was filtered to death
ReplyDeleteYou make a very good point Ruby :)
Deletelove the raccoon and the coon graphic... great shot of you fun friends and it all sounds great to me. now that Bob is confined to bed, I am the only one making and/or cleaning up messes. He will say, well you know I didn't do it! its crazy how our taste change from way back when. There are many things I eat now that I would not touch when I lived at home. I wish my son could drop in once or twice a week. we made a mistake when we moved here, but no way to fix that now..
ReplyDeleteSo glad Sandra, I hope you get to see your son soon. You're right, our tastes do change. And as for cleaning up, well I could get down on the floor, but I couldn't get up and that's the darned truth :)
DeleteI spotted you Denise in the photo. Aren't old photos great, they bring back so many memories. I think that's why I like photography so much, I live my life through my photos :-D I have a lot of old photos of my dad who died in 2002 and when my daughter is a wee bit older I will tell her all about her grandfather.
ReplyDeleteIf that yogurt fall had happened in my house, I think the cats might have helped clean it up haha!
It has been raining mostly here. Friday wasn't too bad so I got my daughter from school and went out a short walk. Met 2 older ladies and was tellling them about my injury. They were so nice and encouraging. I want the rain to stop so I can get out more. I am at the nervous stage just now going out walking but really miss nature. :-D
That's great Ananka. Yes, old photos are great. You and I are very alike with our photos, I feel I have to take a lot of things for posterity :) If our little pooch was still around, she would have made short work of that yogurt too. So glad you are getting out. I don't blame you for being a bit nervous. I am off to the doctor this afternoon for a check-up and am going to ask her for a handicapped parking sticker for the car as I am at that stage. I think about you and your injury a lot and how awful it must have been for you. I remember my dad having something similar a few years before I met Gregg. He had a horrible time too, I still remember it vividly. How nice of those older ladies to give you a listening ear. Very sweet of them to do. I hope your rain stops soon and you'll be able to get back into nature. I think we both find our peace there don't we?
DeleteOur weather here in western PA is getting warmer too. Our temperatures won’t be as high as yours, but I will soak in our warmer temperatures and sunshine. We have to get through today, though. We had a fresh inch of snow fall overnight, and the high today is only forecasted to be 26 degrees.
ReplyDeleteI think, if the forecasters are right, that our snow will arrive after eleven tonight. However, the temperatures over the next few days are rising and we will be at 80 degrees next Tuesday. Hard to comprehend that after all this bad weather :) Hope you'll be getting the same soon Linda :)
DeleteI am sure that you provided excellent supervision and encouragement as Greg cleaned up the yogurt. No doubt he appreciated it!
ReplyDeleteThank you David, he would probably agree with you ;)
DeleteI would call that “less long” rather than shorter. 😎
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday and have a good week.
LOL! Okay John, I think husband would agree with you :) Thank you and you have a good week also.
DeleteOops on the yogurt. But you're right, it happens. I woke up to snow this morning after having 2 days of sun and 50 degrees.
ReplyDeleteLove the old phot of your group. Your son and DIL's food looks tasty. That Bloody Mary is a meal. My gosh I've never seen one with more than a celery stick in it.
Yes, it was an oops :) I hope it warms up for you soon Ann, so that it can get rid of your snow. Same here about that Bloody Mary. Never seen anything like it!
DeleteHippy food!!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, hippy food!!! I remember buying one of those contraptions for making yogurt and I got the 'why did you buy that?' This was back when we first got married. I never ate yogurt or even heard of it in my plain-cooking home. Mother knew about salt and pepper, and sage and thyme for her stuffing, and that was about it. Hasten to add she was a great cook. Anyhow, hubs is now enlightened and he introduced me to a lot of ethnic foods that we both still enjoy :)
DeletePhotographs are the keepers of memories.
ReplyDeleteThe raccoons have such appealing faces.
They do but are very rascally and can cause a lot of damage. Fortunately, we have been lucky. That's a great quote you used and very true :)
DeleteDenise you are Mistress at the most fun filled posts and info.
ReplyDeleteI love this.
Hugs cecilia
What a nice thing to say, thank you so much Cecilia. Very happy you enjoy my chatty posts :) Hugs, Cecilia!
DeleteExcept for yogurt spill (I hate when things like that happen), it looks like a good week. Well maybe not rain, but we are supposed to get some rain this week and although the sun would be nicer, rain is better than snow. And that's a great old photo. I enjoyed reading about your crazy youth...we're we all, although I never remember all night dancing. But I think I would have enjoyed that. Happy new month. I hope it's a good one.
ReplyDeleteIt was, thanks Erika :) glad you enjoyed. Yes, I didn't mention how I got on a train with one of those friends and traveled halfway across Austria because she wanted to see a band she knew. It was an incredible train journey and the beauty of that country in the wintertime is still engraved in my head.
DeleteIt's so good the weather's getting better now and you were able to go out for dinner. You look lovely in your younger years. The yogurt incident – that's happened to me too! How cute, the raccoon stealing the birds' food!
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful that you enjoyed such a lovely evening with your son and daughter-in-law, with delicious food and drinks.
Have a wonderful week! Hugs, Elke
Thank you Elke, the raccoon was the highlight of my day :) Yes, we're very lucky to live so close to our son and daughter-in-law. You have a wonderful week too, hugs, Denise
DeleteWell, at least the spill was not eggs or oil! You are so pretty in the photo, as you are very pretty now too. Your hair rollers...I used to sleep in huge ones that we called beer can rollers! hoe did we ever do it? The cafe looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThat would have been an even worse one if that were so Ginny :) but at least the wooden floors would have been well-oiled, lol! Beer can rollers is an apt description!
DeleteLots going on during this fine weekend. Loved seeing the photos. That's amazing. Five decades ago. Love that.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ivy, glad you enjoyed. Yes, five decades ago, I look at that and wonder where all that time went. :)
DeleteOh I have spilled yogurt like that, very regretful moment. A nice look back at the old photo, you were so pretty Denise. A lovely meal your son and DIL had.
ReplyDeleteVery, a double wamy is the loss of the yogurt and the big mess that it caused :) Thank you for the compliment Christine. I never thought of myself as such, other than at that age always feeling overweight. Ah if only, now that I have more sense, lol!
DeleteLove old photos. That one has lots of memories nestled in there. Where does time go? It is such a privilege to be able to share such memories.
ReplyDeleteMe too Marie, old photos are a lot of fun to look back on :) Where does time go? I keep asking that myself. Thank you for that very sweet comment. I appreciated them very much.
DeleteOh dear on the spill - but these things happen!
ReplyDeleteI did enjoy seeing your photographs.
Happy Sunday and Happy first day of March wishes.
All the best Jan
Yes, they certainly do. Thank you Jan, happy you enjoyed :) I hope you had a wonderful Sunday and 1st Day of March. A Very Happy Month of March to you :) All the best, Denise
DeleteYou have been a busy girl. Nice your son and DIL send you photos. Speaking of photos that one of you 53 years ago was awesome. Memories. And the raccoon - he sure looked interesting. I dropped a container of vanilla yogurt myself today.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the kind words Sandie. That’s a fun coincidence you dropping yogurt today :)
DeleteUy esas cosas pasan si se me ha caído algo de la refri. Ten una buena semana. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteCiertamente ocurren :) Agradezco tus amables palabras. Gracias, te mando un beso :)
DeleteWhile you look forward to warmer weather we are glad that the temps are dropping a little now. It is much mor comfortable walking than in the humidity. Your son and DIL had an interesting drink and meal. Like you we enjoy eating out once a week or so. Last meal out was at a nearby Thai Restaurant. I had crispy fish with a ginger sauce while Bill had a chicken curry. Mr Racoon looks cute. Hope you get better weather soon.
ReplyDeleteI can understand that Diane. When we are in our most humid weather, I always look forward to those cooler temperatures. Your Thai meals sound delicious :)
Deleteyour greg is just like my chuck...that episode resinated with me!! i always enjoy looking at old pictures. we enjoy eating out but i have been cooking a lot, it's so cold and covid is everywhere. i enjoyed seeing the pictures of the kids and the food!!
ReplyDeleteI have thought that too about Gregg and Chuck Debbie :) Sorry to hear about the rising Covid. I always love your cooking pictures. Glad you enjoyed the kids’ food. They enjoy eating out when they can.
DeleteThat sub looks really good. Oh my -- the yogurt dump. I can relate. It's a yucky thing to clean up, isn't it? But so many fun things here. The photos are great fun, all of them. And chin up. It won't be this lousy outside TOO much longer!
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is Jeanie :) Thank you, happy you enjoyed my tales. Chin already up. Though it snowed again today, the temperatures are rising :)
DeleteOh dear with the yogurt decorating the floor. Never mind it happens. 😊
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing the photo of you and your friends. It must have bought back lots of good and fun memories for you.
Even if the racoon was looking for a free meal, he is cute.
It certainly does Beverley, but hopefully not for a long time :) Thank you, old photos do evoke a lot of memories don't they? He's very cute but a bit of a rascal and I try not to encourage the little darlings even though I would love to. The cons unfortunately far outweigh the pros.
