HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE DAILY JOURNAL SUNDAY - 3/15/26 TO SATURDAY 3-21-26

Weather forecast for this coming week, from 3/22 to 3/28 2026.

Sunday, March 15th, 2026: the day always starts off with our son’s visit early morning unless he is elsewhere, out-of-town sometimes. He drops our daughter-in-law off at work. He lets himself in at around 8.30 a.m. and I hear his voice announcing his arrival. I am often upstairs finishing getting ready. We sit around and chatted an hour before his dad started breakfast. Bacon and eggs with toast usually, sometimes British bangers if we have been to the shop in Vienna, sourdough toast as Gregg found out it is one of the breads he should eat health-wise. I had a banana with my cup of black coffee.

The morning always goes fast and it was soon time for our traditional selfies before son left at 12.30 p.m. He didn't want to be late picking his sweetie up.

Half-an-hour later the phone rang and it was son again, this time with our dear daughter-in-law. She wanted a quick chat and that’s always lovely when we get a chance to do that. They were on their way to Winchester for the afternoon. The four of us are going to get together for dinner as soon as soon as schedules align. We sometimes forget how busy they are and they do have different working hours.

Dinner: a late one of soup and sandwich at home. We wanted something simple so heated up a cream of mushroom which was delicious, with ham, thinly sliced cheese, alfalfa sprouts and lettuce on wheat bread.

There are always dates and nuts and fruit to nibble on if we get hungry before bedtime.

I have had no sugary treats as such, and that seems to be going well. I am supposed to have a chat with my doctor soon and will have to set that up in the next couple of days. She is a busy lady and I don't rush into these things. It will be when it will be.

I will be looking at some recipes saves for this week to make, something we both like. The shopping list is being put together.

Monday, March 16th, 2026: the weather was an issue today. We had a tornado watch and 80 mile per hour winds expected. At 6.02 p.m. we have had a lot of rain but it's gone very quiet, not raining, not windy. We look out all day off and on. We would hear the wind pick up if something was coming I'm sure. We also have a basement to get down to if necessary and filled the bathtubs up with water. Yes, I wasn't in the Girl Scouts ten weeks for nothing. Camping? My sister regaled me with all the creepy crawlies inside her tent when she went. That was enough for me to resign from the Girl Scouts!

Gregg moved what he could into the garage, heavy pots are in a corner, outside chairs are tied to the rail and the bench table. Gregg thinks the worst of it has passed and we are keeping our fingers crossed.

Breakfast: a bagel with scrambled eggs and a teaspoon of chili crisp spread over the top, also banana a little later.

Lunch/Dinner: the same as yesterday. It's cold and I needed soup again. I'm drawn to it when I feel chilled. I dress like I am living at the North Pole.

Tuesday, March 17th, 2026: For those who were celebrating, I hope you had a great Saint Patrick’s Day. As for us it was another day spent quietly.

On the weather front, the tornado watch and high winds we were told about, didn’t materialize. We were glad for the anti-climax. We had heavy rain and that was it. I showed Gregg a photo from our local neighborhood app. Someone had taken it on their way home from Washington DC. It showed very dark clouds and what suspiciously looked like a funnel cloud forming in the distance. It was enough to send him outside to make sure he had secured what he could with the deck furniture. However, no tornadoes touched down in our area. There are downed trees in places and not sure of flooding. Hopefully everyone is okay. We didn't lose our electricity.

Wednesday, March 18th, 2026: a special day, it is my Love’s 79th birthday. He was very touched with all your greetings and thanks you very much, as do I. Here is another collage from the restaurant. He often tells me what a very nice group of people I know online. True!

We almost forgot our selfies. Son took a few on our way out.

The meal was great, we all said it was a 10 out of 10. No denying we had a feast and there is no need to eat again today. We had a nice young lady who took care of us. I complimented her on her polished nails, they were really something and beautiful! My nails remain short and buffed and that's as far as I go, but it doesn't stop me from admiring beautifully decorated nails. Anyhow, I need to check out these menus before we go. I find them a bit overwhelmed trying to decide what to choose, but this young lady was a big help. I have already shared photos in the collage but here are a few larger versions.

A mushroom appetizer was ordered that we all shared. It had a cheese sauce over it all and was very good. In the next photo below, the cowboy boots were over the door as we walked in. The old horseshoes are saying, "Welcome", which you can just about make out. Which ones would you pick to wear? I'm going for the pink ones but would probably sprinkle glitter all over them.

We all had steak. Gregg had polished off his Caesar salad before his arrived. Brad ordered Caesar also and I had a regular mixed salad. The Birthday Boy doesn’t drink anything alcoholic normally and enjoyed his coca-cola. Son ordered a Southern Comfort and I had a cocktail, a strawberry lemonade with what I am not sure, mostly a strawberry-lemonade concoction, I wanted to try something new. It didn’t taste like it had alcohol in it and was very refreshing and probably a little dangerous. One was enough for me, I was getting a bit too chatty the boys said and yes, they were joking, at least I think they were joking. You can see the drinks in the photo with mushrooms above.

I ordered a smaller steak than the boys as a lobster tail came with mine, along with the loaded baked potato. No one wanted a dessert after this meal but the cheesecake looked good.

Over the weekend we will be doing it all over again with our dear daughter-in-law, but at a different restaurant, another favorite of our Birthday Boy. We always consider the whole week a special birthday week.

It is 7:01 pm. and not now but we will be going to bed early!

Thursday March 19th, 2026: (57 °F. - 13.9 °C. - Sunny as of 1.09 p.m.)

Just had breakfast at lunchtime. Oatmeal with apples and dried cranberries (these were originally homemade put into 3/4 cup pots and popped in the freezer for whenever I wanted one. The link to the recipe is here. It was made in the crockpot). I added a 1/4 cup probiotic yogurt, a tablespoon of pumpkin seeds and 1/2 ounce of chopped walnuts. One of my favorite breakfasts.

Gregg just gave this to me from one of our selfies. He had it turned into a painting. We both said the boys' likenesses are more accurate than mine.

We went to Trader Joe’s. Another place that has been a long time between visits. I bought small boxes with chocolate Easter eggs, tiny ones six to a packet. I wanted to treat our darlings and give them a special treat but not over the top. I am thinking about the sugar thing for everyone, not just myself.

I had it in mind to buy a few greeting cards. You can get prettily designed ones for 99 cents. While we were in there, we bought a few food supplies as it was time to stock up and we love their pineapple juice for a change of pace. Things seem to sell out fast here. TJ’s is fun to walk around.

Friday, March 20th, 2026: just finished another iPad jigsaw puzzle. I think you will guess what’s on my mind.

No breakfast but lunch was a ready-made salad from Trader Joe’s; chickpea, kale and crispy red rice with avocado herb vinaigrette. There was enough for two so I had the rest for dinner. Gregg preferred his coleslaw and he won't mind my saying so, but his eyebrows rose at my kale. If it was fresh spinach or cabbage he would have no problem. It was all excellent and I will definitely look for it again next time we visit. Also had half of a roast potato. I had the other half for dinner also.

The day has flown by again. We were going for a walk, but it started raining.

Saturday, March 21st, 2026: Happy First Day of Spring and what a gorgeous day it is today. A sunny 68°F. - 20°C.  Ah well now, we've tried to be good all week but today we went to McDonalds for lunch. We usually get a coffee and a doughnut today but didn't, so that's a step in the right direction, I guess. However, a step in the wrong direction took us to the coffee shop after our burger and fries. I gave Gregg my cheeseburger - another justification - and got a coffee and a brownie, no no, oh yes, yes. They picked up on the fact that the dear man had just had his birthday, and he got everything at half price.

Here are a few photos we took around and about. These were taken when we stopped at traffic lights. Such a jolly fellow, he waved and waved and waved.
We have been watching this building go up over the last few months. The land used to have a private home, but it had been abandoned for years, and we slowly saw it collapse in on itself, always saying what a shame, someone's dream home once. It surprised us when the land was finally cleared, the old house was bull-dozed and we watched this much larger building being built floor by floor, starting with the elevator shaft. "I can see three people up there." "What are they doing?" "I can see sparks, looks like some welding is going on." And this is the riveting and scintillating conversation we have when stopped at the traffic light. We counted three people on sight today and yes we count people too.

Our son and daughter-in-law sent photos earlier. Our sweet d-in-l organized her yearly voice and piano recital for her students today. She is an amazing teacher and the love and care she shows her young charges is very heartwarming. Way to go to our daughter-in-law whom we love dearly. Congratulations on another successful recital.

My new book that I ordered last week, two weeks ago(?) has arrived. I have Kay to thank for this. She is host of Georgia Girl With An English Heart. Thank you for recommending this lovely book in one of your blog posts Kay. I can't wait to read it. It is set in a different time but Gregg and I can relate, and I daresay I will be reading snippets to him as I read through the pages. We often read to each other snippets from books we both enjoy reading.

With this I am going to end my weekly journal.
Thanks so much for reading it with me
and I wish you a great week!

  1. What a lovely week! the restaurant looks so impressive! And yes, you did need a brownie for a reward for being so good about your diet! I had no idea sourdough is healthy! I will research it. Your pretty sign-off girl looks a bit like the actress Kyra Sedgwick.

Thank you so for taking the time to leave a comment. I enjoy reading them very much and always try to return a visit. As I do monitor comments it may take a while for them to appear, even quite late depending on what is going on and how much time I am able to spend on the computer.

I appreciate all who look at my blog, but I will not be publishing any businesses. If you are only able to publish anonymously, would you sign your name, and leave an addy so I can return your visit where possible? Thank you!
