With all this bad weather we have had (thankfully the snow is melting and almost gone apart from mini mountains of snow in parts), there have been slim pickings for recent photo taking. As I often do, I went into my archives and found this one, a trip to McKee's Botanical Garden in Vero Beach Florida (link here). With it being all those years' ago, my thinking is that those of you who remember it from before, will not mind a refresh, and those who are new to my blog since then, will hopefully enjoy it for the first time.
Everything that follows, narration and photos, are from January 2014, so exhibits and probably other things have changed. I believe it basically looks the same in layout but if you are thinking of going there, best to check everything online beforehand to see what is still open. Added note: I just checked and there is an exhibit of origami sculptures made out of metal. They look very interesting.
We found a jewel of a garden when driving between destinations on our road trip around Florida. We passed the garden's sign by chance and decided to turn into the entrance. They were having the Seward Johnson Sculpture Exhibit. I am not sure how long this exhibit will be on display but felt very fortunate that we were there at the right time.
I was delighted with this exhibit and I am starting off with one entitled "The Promenade". The man and the woman can be found in a famous 1877 oil painting called "Paris Street, A Rainy Day" done by the French artist Gustave Caillebotte (1848-1894), and that can be found
here. It is interesting to compare the painting with the sculpture.
I have several posts with photos taken at the garden but so as not to overwhelm, I will share one every week or so, until you have seen them all.

ReplyDeletewe have a garden here in hamilton township, new jersey called "grounds for sculpture" . it has exhibits like the one you shared here. it has a lot of really beautiful statues, art and colorful gardens. it is not handicapped friendly but i should go back now that i have my "zinger"!! it is nice to look back and remind ourselves of all the wonderful places we have been!!
