“If you are ever lost while hiking, get stranded with a broken down car, etc., and you notice your cell phone is low on juice or has no signal, here is a tip that may very well save your life.
Change the voicemail on your phone to a message that gives your approximate location, the time, the date, your situation (lost, out of gas, car broken down, injured, etc), and any special instructions such as you are staying with the car, you are walking toward a town, etc. The best part of this is that even if your cell phone dies or stops working, voicemail still works, so anyone calling your phone looking for you will hear the message and know where to find you, or where to send help.”

I always had a fondness for these old cars. There were two or three old ones in this state on hubby's father's old homestead. I always loved them, seeing the beautiful in the old rust buckets, and imagined what they must have been like for the family to drive them.

DeleteGood advice except it will not work without a signal, voice mail is at provider not on your phone and if its dead you could not change it either.

Deleteif a low battery send a text to someone with the info. someone you know will read it. text will go on weak signal or low but not dead battery

ReplyDeleteI agree, we just need to remember to refresh on how to change the greeting. I am going to write the steps down to do just that and keep them handy. Stress makes everything pour out of my head like a waterfall ;)

ReplyDeleteI'm not sure Linda, I never thought about being out of range. I think I would be inclined to take a satellite telephone with me if I knew I was going to be in the boonies. I will definitely be looking into that when the time comes that we go on a road trip.

ReplyDeleteYes and I'm glad I saw this as I doubt I would have thought about it when traveling. We always carry extra battery power but there was one time we even ran out of that.
