A HOLLY PLANT POEM

"Ever see a plant so jolly,

And good fellow-ish as Holly?

Makes no difference what's the weather,

He and Christmas come together."

~Elizabeth Gordon~

A few lines from The Flower Children (1912)

(I couldn't find much information on this lady.  Her poem has many more verses, and I will probably share them at another time.)

    1. Opposite to us? Doesn't your water go down the sink in opposite directions too? I read that once but realized I have never asked if that is a fact from an Australian :)

  14. You made me curious about the holly plant and why it's tied to Christmas. This is what I found online: The Druids regarded holly as a symbol of fertility and eternal life, thought to have magical powers. Today, Christians have adopted the holly tree as a symbol for Christmas. The sharp leaves are said to symbolize the crown of thorns worn by Christ, while the berries represent his blood.

    1. That is very interesting Kay, thank you very much for researching that. I had heard it had pagan origins but didn't know the full story.
