We had a lovely time here. As it was on a Saturday there were many people enjoying the area. It is also closer in distance to us than any of the other places we usually go to, and yet it has been three or four years since our last visit.
We saw a few gulls on the lake, and I am not sure what those other water birds are. If anyone can make them out enough to ID, I appreciate the help. The most prevalent bird was the Canada Goose. The other birds were too far out on the water for a decent photo, but it's a memory.
There is a real nice video at YouTube, of the park's birds at this link.
People were feeding the geese and they were swimming nearer to shore by the dozens. A loaf of bread was on the menu. Here are a few of them. You may remember my post - link here - on why we should not feed geese bread, or any kind of human food. Other birds can be affected also. I remember doing this with my parents when I was little, and it sure does bring lot of joy. The geese at the lake looked healthy enough, but I now know what it can do. The information I shared on my old post can be read underneath my picture of the butterflies.
There were a few dogs in the area. This one had been tugging on that leash and I could tell he wanted to chase the geese, but its human gently pulled back and the cute dog paid mind to what she was saying quietly.
I was impressed with the way she was controlling the situation, not with a lot of force but with a whole lot of love.
Still more to follow but I'm calling it an early night as it has been a long day - in a good way - and I'm feeling a wee bit tired.
This is a very impressive dog owner. The canada Geese here have taken over the place. And I am afraid to the detriment of other bird species.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ginny :) I thought so too. As for the rest of your comment, you make a good point.
Deletewow Gorgeous photos of nature! That first image is definitely post card worthy.
ReplyDeleteThank you Angie, so happy you enjoyed :)
DeleteLovely post! Have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you Anne, and you have a nice weekend also :)
DeleteThank you for sharing the beauty. Rest well and have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome Sue and thank you so much :) I wish you the same.
DeleteLove the photos. This looks like a really nice place.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ann :) I can't believe it was that long before we got back to this pretty park. It will be on our regular 'walking' places now.
DeleteHello Denise,
ReplyDeleteLove the first reflection photo! The second photo has a group of Cormorants swimming, great capture. Love the geese and that cute doggie. Take care, enjoy your weekend!
Hello Eileen, thank you and also for the ID on the Cormorants. Really appreciate that. You take care and enjoy your weekend also, and thanks again :)
DeleteHope you got plenty of rest Denise.
ReplyDeleteCute dog. And beautiful lake photos.
I did thank you Anni :) Happy you enjoyed my photos.
DeleteYou are right to caution people on the dangers of feeding bread to water life, Denise. Just this week, we saw people doing the same here on the Nashua River.
ReplyDeleteThank you Dorothy :) It's something that a lot of people do, just to be kind to the geese and be in their presence, and not realizing the consequences. As I mentioned, we used to do this with my parents. It was always a fun part of the Sunday weekend picnic.
DeleteTake care! Great photos. I enjoyed them.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jenn and so glad you enjoyed them :) You take care too, especially with all that snow around! Goodness!
DeleteWhat a cute puppy.
ReplyDeleteHe was, wasn't he? Thanks William :)
Deletethe geese are gorgeous and that dog is too.. glad you mentioned don't feed bread to geese, ducks or birds. the sky and water in the first photos is just magnificent...
ReplyDeleteThank you Sandra :) it was a lovely trip out. Thank you on the support, I try to spread the word whenever I can.
DeleteIt's not good to feed the geese but it's also risky. If they get angry with you when the feed is gone they can harm you.
ReplyDeleteThanks Red :) That's a great point you made.
DeleteLovely
ReplyDeleteThank you Christine :)
DeleteLove seeing the geese. The coloration of their feathers is so precisely placed. But, they can be mean little buggars, ,too.
ReplyDeleteThank you Latane, so glad you enjoyed :) I laughed at the last part, they do get pretty feisty but I have always loved them, even when 'hearded' away from a nest I hadn't seen in the undergrowth one time. I wondered why he came up to me and started pecking at my shoe laces. A warning and I thought I had better move on so as not to encourage more.
DeleteLovely to take a trip.... also lovely to see a dog owner, who knows what they are doing. :-)
ReplyDelete🍁💛🍁💛🍁
Yes on both counts BB :) Thank you :)
DeleteSky mirror images are outstanding here! Love the sceneries
ReplyDeleteThank you Roentare :) So glad you enjoyed :)
DeleteThe lake is a beautiful nature spot and I enjoyed all the photos. I also feel guilty about all the bread I've fed to birds.
ReplyDeleteWell, our hearts were in the right place, we just are made more aware these days, and I have actually seen geese with this angel wing syndrome now, and that really drove it home for me. It was quite shocking to see them so when I can, without being too preachy, I will pass the information on. Thanks Carol, I'm glad you enjoyed all my photos :)
DeleteWhat a gorgeous day you had at this park, Denise. I adore the first photo--so captivating! I remember your post on not feeding fowl human food. Thank you for spreading that information. And that darling dog and its human is so sweet. As is the lab puppy in your signature! Hope you have rested up and will enjoy your weekened!
ReplyDeleteWe certainly did Martha Ellen :) That was a favorite of mine too. I'm glad that you don't mind me spreading this information :) Much appreciate your kind comments and I hope you have had a super weekend :)
DeleteLovely place there Denise, good to see the dog behaving.
ReplyDeleteI have friends that used to live in Burke VA.
Thank you Margaret, yes it was good to see. What a coincidence that you have friends who used to live in Burke, VA. When we moved from California we rented a place there for a year while waiting for our house to sell.
DeleteThese are beautiful photos at the lake. I love the ones of the geese. They are so nice and clear. I've always loved them, but their honk is LOUD. But when I hear them in the air, it makes me smile. : )
ReplyDelete~Sheri
Thank you Sheri :) I will have more photos of geese in next Tuesday's post. I've always loved them too but haven't heard them honk up close, just the ones flying over in formation and that is just one of nature's most wonderful sounds. They make me smile too.
