I HAVE FOUND...

I have found such joy in simple things;

A plain, clean room, a nut-brown loaf of bread...A cup of milk, a kettle as it sings,

The shelter of a roof above my head,

And in a leaf-laced square along the floor,

Where yellow sunlight glimmers through a door.I have found such joy in things that fill

My quiet days: a curtain's blowing grace,

A potted plant upon my window sill,

A rose, fresh cut and placed within a vase;

A table cleared, a lamp beside a chair,

And books I long have loved beside me there.

Oh, I have found such joys I wish I might

Tell every woman who goes seeking far

For some elusive, feverish delight,

That very close to home the great joys are:

The elemental things - old as the race,

Yet never, through the ages, commonplace.

I Have Found Such Joy

  3. What a wonderful poem. Joy is always so close. I believe that the reason so many can't find it is because it's in the simple things that we tend to take for granted.

  4. every single one of these fits me and fills me with joy reading the poem and if i see them. one of my most favorite of little things is watching curtains blowing out from the window. the view from my sofa has a palm. the fronds move constanly. I watch them a lot. thank you for this poem

    1. Hi Mark, I agree, it is a great fireplace, but alas it is not ours. I took this photo many years ago in a very old house we were visiting. I coveted it back then too :)
