THIS MONTH'S QUIZ QUESTIONS - ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S QUESTIONS

How many tentacles does an octopus have?  How many tentacles does a squid have?

Answer: the octopus has eight tentacles.  The squid has ten, two of which are specialized.  The squid is no wimp - the giant squid is the largest creature on earth without a backbone, sometimes growing to 55 feet long and weighing 2.5 tons.

How many legs does a spider have?  How many eyes?

Answer: the spider has eight legs.  Most spiders have eight eyes but some also have six.  There are spiders with two, four or even twelve eyes.

Why do spiders never get caught in their webs?

Answer: spiders can get caught in webs but it very rarely happens.  The tips of their legs are specially built, and the oil on their legs keeps them free footed.

How fast can dragonflies fly?
Answer: they can achieve speeds of up to 30 miles per hour.

Why do fireflies flash?
Answer: a chemical reaction relating to the mating process causes the burst of light.  The male and female firefly have different patterns of flashing, but it is much too complicated to address here.

    1. Thanks Margaret, I found a pocket trivia book with both questions and answers when I was doing a tidy up of old storage boxes. It is several years old but the answers still seem to be the same. You stay safe also :)

    1. You are very welcome Carol :) When I first came here almost 45 years ago now, that first summer was magical. I remember driving south to see my in-laws and there were all these flashing, twinkling lights in the trees on both sides of the freeway. Hubby told me what they were. I had only seen them in nature shows before that. I still remember the excitement of seeing them for the first time. I still love them :)
