BUTTERFLIES IN THE MIMOSA TREE

For several hours last week, talking and chatting away in a lovely shaded garden with other tall trees, I saw a Mimosa in the neighbor's garden.  It was covered with butterflies.  I couldn't take my eyes off them, something I had in common with my daughter-in-law.  We were both enjoying these flying flowers, as I have heard them called.
Not as close and consequently not as sharp as I would have liked these photos to be, but this is another memory of time spent with family in a quiet spot in the garden, overlooking a lovely pond.  An idyllic place to spend a 4th of July family picnic and one where we were very grateful to those who had brought us all together in such pretty surroundings.
"Beautiful and graceful, varied and enchanting, small but approachable, butterflies lead you to the sunny side of life.  And everyone deserves a little sunshine."
~Jeffrey Glassberg~

"The Butterfly is a flying flower, the flower a tethered butterfly."

The Persian Silk Tree, Albizia julibrissin, is a species of tree in the family Fabaceae, native to southwestern and eastern Asia.  The genus is named after the Italian nobleman, Filippo degli Albizzi, who introduced it to Europe in the mid-18th century, and it is sometimes incorrectly spelled Albizzia.
This tree can grow between 10 to 50 feet in height, and can last 10 to 45 years in the wild.  There is more information at this link.

"The soft sweet fragrance of the Mimosa flower...
The flowers that keep their odor to themselves all day.  But when the sunlight dies away, let the delicious secret out to every breeze that roams about."
~Anonymous~

Thanks for visiting and enjoy your day.

  1. Wonderful pictures! The butterflies look like beautiful blossoms on the trees. We have seen butterflies on a Mimosa before, and it is a sight not to be forgotten.

  3. We know them as Japanese or Persian silk trees. They are a delight in full bloom and I wait for that time each and every year. Sadly the beauty is also subject to borers, which damage the tree considerably.

  7. Beautiful photos. We have a lot of butterflies around here just now, but none that would sit still for a photo.
