We are fortunate that we don't live too far from here, but it has been over a year since our last visit. We went in the evening not too long before the sun set. It wasn't quite as hot but still 86 degrees F. We enjoyed our walk very much and said now the weather is going to get cooler, we should come here more often.
We walked toward the Henry House.
There is much history here and Gregg knows a lot of what took place. I always ask him questions about this sacred ground. I tell him once again he would make a wonderful history teacher. I know I have asked him these questions many times before over the years and I have retained quite a bit, but he has never ending patience and treats my queries as if I had asked for the first time. Our conversation turns to Mrs. Henry, and we become reflective and wonder what her life must have been like before.
This is the tree you can see as we approached the Henry House.
In the following photo we are looking towards the visitor center.
We found ourselves a bench and watched the sun go down before leaving for home.
Simply gorgeous sunset pictures. A real benefit of going in the evening when it is cooler! I just love the path to the house and tree.

DeleteWe didn't visit this battlefield, but have been fortunate to stand on some of the grounds from both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars (a little further from home for us, but one of the highlights from our RV traveling years. Historical figures come alive when you stand in their footsteps and I'm forever grateful for all who keep these parks and places open to the public and provide guides and information.
ReplyDeleteHi Sallie, because hubby is a history buff we go to these places when we have the opportunity. We will be going to Gettysburg again soon, and have mentioned a couple of other places. It always makes us reflective when we go. All those who have served hold a very special place in our hearts, having had military men both in my family and in his. The visitor centers are amazing places to get information and so well run.
DeleteIt's good that you could get back to this important site in the cool of the evening. I read the link to your previous visit. Sundown is a good time to go to such a thought-provoking place. You have captured the atmosphere as you look across the fields to the statue and the house with the tree skyline. It seems peaceful now and the sunset is beautiful.
