I love this expression, it makes me smile when I hear it. I have a Scottish friend who introduced me to the saying. It is used to describe one who is in a daydream, to be in one's own world, deep in thought, staring into space while not staring at anything in particular. I suppose on occasion we've all been 'away with the fairies'.
My photo was taken in the Fairy Garden at Meadowlark Gardens.
A very happy birthday to you.
ReplyDelete'Off with the fairies' (or sometimes the pixies) was a common expression when I was growing up.
Thank you EC, I never came across it before my friend came out with it one day. I adopted the expression :)
DeleteHappy birthday, young lady, and enjoy your day.
ReplyDeleteToo kind Valerie and thank you. You have a great day :)

ReplyDeleteBirthday, enjoy your family time.. I have been away with the fairies many times in my life and a lot more now that I am older.. but the saying is new to me, I thought I was 'daydreamin'.... hurry up and catch up with me in the age thing.
