IT'S MY BIRTHDAY

I will be spending time with my family today.  Gregg, my son and daughter-in-law are taking me out for a birthday meal.  Today I turned 68 years of age.  Sometimes I wonder where all the time has flown, and occasionally when thinking of what has gone on before, I find myself away with the fairies.

I love this expression, it makes me smile when I hear it.  I have a Scottish friend who introduced me to the saying.  It is used to describe one who is in a daydream, to be in one's own world, deep in thought, staring into space while not staring at anything in particular. I suppose on occasion we've all been 'away with the fairies'.

My photo was taken in the Fairy Garden at Meadowlark Gardens.

  1. A very happy birthday to you.
'Off with the fairies' (or sometimes the pixies) was a common expression when I was growing up.

Birthday, enjoy your family time.. I have been away with the fairies many times in my life and a lot more now that I am older.. but the saying is new to me, I thought I was 'daydreamin'.... hurry up and catch up with me in the age thing.

  6. Your forever young spirit shows through in the saying you’ve chosen for your special day. Life without the whimsy would be rather dull. Happy Birthday, Denise! It’s amazing how quickly time flies.

  9. Happy, Happy Birthday Denise!!! I hope you have a wonderful day! I love your fairy garden picture! It has everything, even an owl and a squirrel. We are almost the same age, I am one year older than you. That makes you born in 1950? I have never heard of this saying, and now I love it. I hope you post pictures of your fun day.
