This is an unknown artist's interpretation of a very famous painting, the Creation of Adam by Michelangelo. It was on a wall mural of a local Italian restaurant.
The original Creation of Adam is a fresco on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, c. 1508-1512. It is one of many. I don't know if I will ever get to see the real thing but it has always been on the bucket list. I read that it is one of the most replicated religious paintings of all time.
That is one talented muralist.
ReplyDeleteI agree!
DeleteWow that is pretty good. The only time we got close to Rome was on a cruise, and the day we were supposed to visit, I went down with pneumonia so spent the day in the bottom of the ship on drip!!! Keep well Diane
ReplyDeleteOh that's a real shame, I am sorry to hear that.
DeleteA few churches here have 'copies' of the painting. I like it a lot.
ReplyDeleteIt is really beautiful, I see it all the time but only on the TV.
DeleteI have never seen the one on the ceiling, but have seen many of the replicas, on TV, in movies, on FB in Museums... I wonder if there is anyone who has not seen it as a replica???
ReplyDeleteI would like to meet them.
DeleteThis one is good. Yes, I can believe it is the most copied.
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteIt wouldn't surprise me that this painting gets recreated in many places.
ReplyDeleteIndeed William.
DeleteHi Denise,
ReplyDeleteWonderful replica of the fresco, well spotted.
All the best, John
Thank you John, all the best to you too.
DeleteDenise, intriguing random photo. Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you Doug, I hope yours was a wonderful one.
DeleteI have never understood how Michelangelo painted this on the ceiling. He must have had a cricked neck and a very long brush.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Smiling here Victor, thank you.
DeleteI saw the original at the Sistine Chapel several years ago … craning my neck upward in wonderment amid the murmurings of many other tourists. We were in awe and time was limited. It would be nice to have a solitary moment with the work of art lying on my back on the floor and looking up as if at the stars in a night sky. Perhaps you will do that one day. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope so Penelope :) and I am happy you got to see it. What a gift!
DeleteVery nice!
ReplyDeleteI thought so too.
DeleteNicely done, Denise, and like you I would also like to see the original, one day
ReplyDeleteThanks Dorothy, that would be lovely for both of us.
