I have been looking at our garden again, seeing what I can find to attract bees and butterflies. A few days ago we visited a nearby garden center.
I found the pretty frame above on my PIP app, the same app as I used for the collage in my previous post.
Not being that knowledgeable about such things, all I had to do was look at what they had in stock, and which flowers attracted the most bees. However, I only bought one plant, a coneflower in a deep orange, almost red color, still to be planted at the side of the house where it will get plenty of sun.

I also took photos of a lot of other flowers I would like to add eventually. It is a lovely place and fun to browse around, I will be going again soon. The pretty flower below is the same photo as the top one in the frame, cropped.

I either forgot to or didn't see an ID on these. At first I thought they were Ox Eye Daisies. Noticing the yellow tinge on the leaves I looked on line. The nearest I came to identifying them was a Banana Cream Shasta Daisy?
Because I am very happy with the quality of photos from my phone (and sometimes my iPAD), I didn't bother buying a point and shoot camera when my last one stopped working. Most of the photos I take now are with my phone, unless I need the other one with the zoom lens when I am trying to take photos of birds and other wildlife.
I have a few more photos from here, but as they are of a different theme I will share them next time.

DeleteI love hanging out in Garden Centers. Your phone pictures are excellent!! I adore the little village and train. And your wonderful bee pictures! I think they are Carpenter Bees. So gentle you can catch them in your hand. I love your pretty frame. I don't think I have ever seen a Pincushion Flower! Now I will remember when I see one. And it does look like it has pins sticking out of it. My favorites are the little train track, and your wonderful bee in the white flower. Gorgeous post!

DeleteThat's a superb selection but I didn't know the Scabiosa was called a pincushion flower. I can see why!
ReplyDeleteRe cameras, the one in my new iphone isn't a patch on the old one. I am very disappointed. Maybe it's because the phone is smaller... whatever, I don't like it.
I enjoyed the selection also Valerie. That's a shame about your phone. My new one turned out to be far better than my old one, even my old point and shoot.

DeleteThose photos have clarity. But, I still prefer to keep my cell phone and Canon camera separate. One is for calls, the other is for photos.
ReplyDeleteI know, I felt the same way up until I had my new phone and liked the quality of the photo better. The colors seemed much more vibrant, so now I think of my phone as my camera.

DeleteWoW!!! what a beautiful garden center!! i have never seen a red coneflower, it is so pretty. my purple ones are getting ready to bloom, my black eyed susans too!! i think milkweed is a good one for butterflies!!!
ReplyDeletei threw down an old pack of wildflowers in my garden, expecting nothing and boy was i surprised. it created a beautiful garden edge and it attracts butterflies and humming birds!!!

DeleteLovely photos from the garden center, Denise, and I agree that the iPhone does a great job. Even though I have several point & shoot digital camera, the phone is with me more often. Pat would have enjoyed seeing the village and train setup.

DeleteI am jealous that you have such a lovely garden centre to go to. Our only reasonable nursery here was closed down through lack of support. I am looking for a small shrub that will attract the insects, and it is impossible to find anything suitable in the few places that sell plants here. There is always the internet but transport is ridiculous! I had a gorgeous sage plant in the spot and it suddenly just died. It was always alive with bugs and butterflies.
