HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE - AMARYLLIS

These are of a bouquet sent to us by Gregg’s sister and husband for our 50th wedding anniversary last month. I have never seen this color of Amaryllis before. Photos don’t do them justice, they were exquisite!

One had a broken stem near the top - not in transit as I think I did it when transferring it into the vase. I thought it looked very pretty in the small glass vase next to the snowman on the table. One stem held three blooms. I placed the bouquet next to Santa Clause, which is another gift they gave us several years ago. He is part of our treasured keepsakes and is brought out of his box each year.

BOXING DAY - 12/26/24

 

Another short one today. I hope you all had a marvelous time with your families and friends or however you celebrated. It was a precious time for us. Here we are with one of son’s selfies. The snowman with those cute cardinals, one of my gifts from them, lit up and was like a lava lamp when turned on, all sparkly and much brighter than the photo shows.  My sweet babes know me well, I loved it.

I will go into more detail about the day later, but we had a whole lot of fun enjoying being together.

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE - SOMETHING TO MAKE YOU SMILE

 

We were told snow was coming this weekend but it turned into steady rain, so we are spending most of our weekend indoors looks like, unless today surprises us. All you lovely people who are having bad weather, take good care of yourselves and stay warm.  

This is a recently completed jigsaw puzzle from off my iPad.  I love the expression on that little dog’s face.

I also found this sweet illustration on pixabay.com.  I can’t remember the last time I built a snowman.

SHARING MY COLLECTIBLES - A FEW CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS

These are from the tree we have in the family room, the one I made into a 'wings' theme. First it was just for birds, then I expanded it. Most are bird ornaments, but there are angels of course and they have wings. Santas and bears as long as they are holding birds, or something to do with birds or even butterflies, they are included. I added the butterflies because of their wings, so they made it onto the tree. The bear in the frame above isn't at our house. It was a picture scene from pixabay.com, and the frame had an opening for people to put their photos into. It is a bear ornament with cardinal shared towards the bottom of this post. 

There are a few add-ons from the same place.  They have thousands of royalty-free graphics for public use and when I have time to play, I have a lot of fun putting them together with my photos. Sometimes they come out overly busy, but I like most of them.

I can't find a couple of boxes of ornaments. My star topper is also awol. It's probably in the same box as my homemade wooden ones. I expect it's under several boxes in the basement that I don't have the energy to dig into. This year I am going to make sure everything is labeled, and I know where everything is. I thought I had done that already but apparently not.

  

The nice thing is, I found some that I had forgotten all about as they had not been out of their box for a couple of years or more.  That's the way it goes in this house, we find all eventually.

Jemima Puddle-Duck usually makes it on the tree every year and she was probably added from our time in California. I have not read any Beatrix Potter in years and had forgotten Jemima's story, but you can read a shortened account here. The bird in the green woolly hat is another mystery but is a favorite, and I only know he's been around for a long time.  

This is a new one and you might recognize the artist as his ornaments and figurines are very popular these days.

I found the bear and cardinal ornament at a gift shop on the grounds of Big Meadows Lodge.  It's an old one too.

Lastly, another oldie but goodie, a parent King Penguin with its Chick.

I played around in my ArtCard app for the next one.

That's all the ornaments for now, maybe for this year with Christmas being right around the corner.  It was a lot of fun putting them together.

YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO FIND WHILE DRIVING AROUND

 

This time it was a fence-line of friendly snowmen waving.

We also drove by this house not too far away from home. The man had just finished putting up his decorations. We were going by slowly to take a look, and as he turned round to smile I thanked him and told him how much we enjoy his decorations, how festive they were. His smile got bigger as he said thank you back. I always appreciate seeing these festive homes and all the hard work that goes into them. One of these nights we will be driving around the neighborhood to take more photos.   

Hope they give you a smile.  

SATURDAY MORNING NOT AT THE BIRD FEEDER

 

IT WOULD BE REALLY HARD TO CUT INTO THIS...

 and take a slice.  I would not want to spoil perfection.  They are just too perfectly beautiful!  Another form of great art!  Such talented people out there aren't there? 

I found them at the Gaylord Hotel and Convention Center at National Harbor in Maryland, in the windows of a bakery inside the hotel.  Gregg and I decided to treat ourselves to a mini road trip before the holidays, our gift to each other for Christmas.  Only 24 miles away and we reveled in the fact that it only took us a short time to drive home.  We have dipped our toes into the waters friends.  It's our first getaway in yonks!

Word of the day: Yonks

Noun: informal - British slang

It means a very long time.

I used to use that expression all the time but it's been years.  It just popped into my head right now.  Next I'll be saying this is the first trip away in a donkey's age (also British slang, and another expression that means the same, and another one I have not used in a very long time) until now.

Anyhow, I would love to look at the names of the customers who order these.  Maybe for a company's party just before everyone breaks up for the Holidays, or who knows?  There wasn't a price showing and I wasn't going to ask.  This old kitty-kat was just a little curious.

Well, my friends, the season is fast moving along.  I took loads of photos to share in future posts, no surprise there.  I will start sharing them the day after Monday's recipe.  Happy Sunday!
