It's snowing outside (wrote this on Friday,12-5-25). As I haven't been too far afield lately, I am thankful that I can browse through my old blog for trips we took in previous years. My random photo is from August 2013 when we took a road trip across country.
This is a scene at Hayden Valley in Yellowstone, one place I would dearly love to visit again. I actually shared this photo before here, along with a favorite poem if you would like to take a look-see at the poem. Also, I came across a YouTube of a young Irish couple - Philly and Keely - who visited Yellowstone recently. Keely’s excitement and awe of being at the park is delightful! They have been traveling to several countries for the last four-and-a-half years, and they've just landed in Yellowstone. You will be able to see various sights as they travel around the park.

I have a Marie Callender's Chicken Pot Pie in the oven, and as I missed breakfast this morning, I am about to sit down for lunch. Looks like it has stopped snowing. There's maybe a couple of inches out there, not so bad but bad enough that I won't be going outside, except maybe to feed the birds as the containers need to be refilled and the water dish has iced over.
It is Saturday evening now (the 6th). My dear other half walked through the door at 6 p.m. after being gone for a few days. I made him his favorite chowder to come home to (mentioned several times on here). I didn’t have the corn I usually put in, or any tasty rolls for dipping, but it was oh so good and the aroma coming out of that kitchen was a lovely welcome home after driving for several hours. I was curious about the calories in 1 cup, so I did a search online. Several sites popped up. The one I visited was a lady’s blog and she said she found it in a Southern Living magazine published in 2000. I have been making it two or three times every winter for almost 25 years! I knew I had been making it for yonks, but didn’t realize it had been that long. As for the calories, I never did find a number. It all depends if you use cream or 2% milk, the amount of veggies, etc. One day just for the heck of it, I will jot the calories down for each food as I prepare, then divide the finished soup into 1 cup portions and calculate from there. Not that I am really bothered, I would do it just for fun, and my own curiosity.
Hope you're all doing okay. It is chilly in our part of Virginia, 32 degrees F. (0 degrees C.). Probably not as bad as some of you are getting.
Take good care of yourselves and thanks for stopping by. I hope your day is a great one.

The photo you uploaded from a previous trip is wonderful Denise,
ReplyDeleteI really like the clouds.
How beautiful it is snowing out there for you.
It rains quite a bit here, I hope we don't have any floods.
Have a nice December, I hope the aviary has enough food for the birds!!
Thank you Katerina and I hope you didn’t get any floods. The birds are happy :) I hope all goes well with you and your loved ones my dear friend.
DeleteI have heard that Marie Callander's pot pies are very good, I need to try one. I see by my comment on your previous chowder recipe that I was going to make it. But I have no memory of that! So I have printed it and will be making it this week. It does seem to have an awful lot of celery! I may cut that in half.
ReplyDeleteThe pies are very good Ginny, and I do hope you like this recipe :) Gregg teases me about the celery. It’s not my favorite either and I am always saying when he prepares it, “Please no Gregg celery, just Denise celery.” He likes to cut it in big pieces, whereas I dice it very small.” He loves celery and the more the better. I always cut the amount by half. Well it would be a boring old world if we all liked the same thing, as my dear old mum would say.
DeleteWhat a beautiful landscape that photo shows from years ago!
ReplyDeleteIt's 8 degrees and overcast here; I'd much rather have snow where you are!
Yes, something delicious like that is always welcome!
Have a lovely Sunday!
hugs Elke
Greetings dear Elke :) the snow wasn’t very much this time and didn’t cover the roads for long. Thank you, I agree 100%. I hope your Sunday was a lovely one and that you have a great week. Hugs, Denise xo
DeleteHave a nice day!
ReplyDeleteThank you Anne, you too :)
DeleteYour day is so different to ours. It was so hot by lunchtime I turned on the aircon but not long after Bill was too cold. so I turned it off and the temp outside wasn't too bad. I have been having toasted sandwiches for tea. I love them. Stay warm and cosy.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like us in the summer. Toasted sandwiches are always delicious. Stay cool :)
Deletewe still have the AC on, but it only runs during the afternoons, we cool down to 69 and 70 at night. we did have a week of high 50's but not now. I would love to go away from home and to come home to the smell of food someone else cooked.. not gonna happen but I can enjoy your aromas and homecomings. I love the smells of cooking, once a week I peel and cook five pounds of apples, with cinnamon and sweetener. its bob's cooked apples for the week and the house smells divine.
ReplyDeleteIt's 31 degrees F. right now. Most days are going to be in the 30s for the next week or so. If we were neighbors I would love to make a meal for your return :) Your apples and cinnamon, can almost smell those right now.
DeleteIt's so lovely to read about Yellowstone… I've unfortunately never traveled "across the pond." Being from East Germany, I had so much catching up to do in Europe; we also spent a lot of time in the Nordic countries, and in recent years I've ended up in England… but that really big trip probably won't happen… that's why it's so nice to read about it in the blogs.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much.
My birdbath is also frozen over every morning, and when the sun shines, the tits even bathe in it during the day… I hope you have a wonderful time.
The soup looks great – we had chili con carne.
Best regards Viola
Having traveled in Germany and other parts of Europe, I know that there are many beautiful places to visit over there that are incredible. My roots are on that side of the pond, and now with family in Germany, I know the Black Forest is a sight to behold! Thank you, I feel the same way when I visit your blog and all the others. The scenes you speak about at your bird bath gives me a lot of pleasure, and your chili con carne sounds wonderful! Best regards to you too Viola :)
DeleteThe vintage postcard is so attractive. There are so many beautiful places in the world.
ReplyDeleteThere certainly are Janice. It would take a hundred lifetimes to see them all, and then some :)
DeleteI have never been to Yellowstone. Love your pictures and that postcard is awesome
ReplyDeleteThank you Ann, I love the old vintage postcards too :)
DeleteHello Densie,
ReplyDeleteYellowstone is one of my favorite parks to visit.
Beautiful photo of the valley!
The pot pie and the chowder sound great for these cold winter days.
Take care, enjoy your day and a happy week ahead.
Hello Eileen :) It's beautiful, isn't it? Thank you! We are finishing off the chowder today and we put a couple of night crusty rolls this time. Have a wonderful week!
DeleteThose are good pot pies in a pinch but I do like the ones I make better. I remember camping in Yellowstone when we took a 6 week vacation to travel cross country. The girls made good memories and when they met class mates at college from other states they could say I've been there.
ReplyDeleteI can understand that Marcia, nothing like favorites made from scratch. Lovely to go on these road trips. I am hoping we still have at least one road trip in our near future. Lovely for our kids to have those memories :)
DeleteNice old postcard and chowder sounds good
ReplyDeleteThank you Christine, much appreciated :)
DeleteIt’s 12F here with flurries this morning in Eastern Ontario and going down to 1F apparently.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's painfully cold! I hope you stay nice and warm :)
DeleteI have not been to Yellowstone. I can see why the Irish couple were delighted. It's sub-zero this morning.
ReplyDeleteGosh Sandra, I won't be moaning at our 30ish weather. Stay warm in front of that lovely fire you have :)
DeleteI love vintage cards 👌 Happy Sunday
ReplyDeleteThank you Ashok and a Happy Monday and week to you :)
DeleteWhat a beautiful flash back. I've never been to Yellowstone...
ReplyDeleteWE have been to several in Colorado and Utah.
Happy Sunday
Hugs cecilia
Hello Cecilia, I always wanted to go to Yellowstone for the winter but maybe in my next lifetime :) I love Colorado and Utah too. Beautiful places. I hope you had a lovely Sunday, and am wishing you a Happy Monday as I am a day late catching up with things here :) Hugs, Denise xo
DeleteI have not been to Yellowstone, but it may be on my list after I visit more places in my own home state. So much here to enjoy too.
ReplyDeleteYes, 32 is cold for Virginia, I recall my brother thinking it was nearly too cold to go out one winter when I visited.
That's very true Val, every state has the most interesting and beautiful places to visit :) It will be even colder next week if I read the weather right :)
DeleteNice to read that your honey bunny made it back home. Sounds like a lovely weekend there. Very nice here too. Snoweee, cozzzzy and calm. Enjoy your lunch.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ivy :) Glad you had a nice weekend also. Sounds idyllic.
Delete❤️🎄
DeleteNothing sounds better than a cup of chowder when you come in from the cold! Love that vintage postcard and the lovely photo.
ReplyDeleteThanks Leslie, ate the last of the chowder today and it was even better than the first day :) Glad you enjoyed the postcard and the photo.
DeleteNothing like a homecooked meal to come home to after being away. :)
ReplyDeleteI went to Yellowstone when I was a kid and I still remember it as being a very beautiful and magical place. That photo brings it back!
Was -2F at noon and has warmed up to 2F by 4:30pm. But the sun is setting soon and it will get cold again. Winter is here for sure. ;)
Thanks Rita :) That would be an amazing park to take a kid to and I'm glad you have lovely memories. Goodness, you've got it cold your way. Yes, winter is definitely upon us.
DeleteI do like vintage/antique cards ...
ReplyDeleteChicken Pot Pie in the oven, does sound delicious.
Good wishes for the coming new week - don't they fly by!
All the best Jan
Wonderful, thank you Jan :) I wish you the same for this week and yes, they certainly do fly by :) All the best, Denise xo
DeleteThat's a wonderful vintage card. It's a spot I've never been but I'd love to go sometime.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like it Jeanie, I hope you get there some day :)
DeleteBella tarjeta. Te mando un beso y ten una buena semana.
ReplyDeleteGracias, me alegro mucho que te guste la tarjeta y te mando un beso y te deseo una buena semana.
DeleteThe old card is looking rather nice, Denise.
ReplyDeleteKeep cooking those homemade meals, much better for you so it's said.
Take care and keep warm.
Thank you Margaret, I've always enjoy these old cards. Yes, homemade is always much better in more ways than one. You take care and keep warm (or cool considering the time of year for you).
DeleteI like the old postcard of Yellowstone Park. I think it would be a cool place to visit.
ReplyDeleteMe too Beverley, I like vintage anything :) It is a very cool place.
DeleteI have been to Yellowstone once. It made a big impression.
