SATURDAY MORNING AT THE BIRD FEEDER - WHAT IS THIS?

The Goldfinch had a nice surprise today.

Yes, the pinecones are still around, and the birds seem to enjoy picking the seeds out of them.

"Ye gads!" said their many children. "Don't embarrass us!"

(A little nostalgia, at this link you can listen to
the late great Ella Fitzgerald singing that famous song)

In the meantime, Sophie Squirrel is enjoying the snow, just as long as she can keep her acorn, which she seems very possessive about. That’s okay, sharing is a learning process for her, but she is getting there.

The Dark-eyed Junco is enjoying his peanuts…

and the Mourning Doves say, "Is it going to snow again?"

And that's how it goes at this week's Saturday Morning at the Bird Feeder.

If you are in the chilly climes, stay warm and if you are in the hottest climes, stay cool, and to all, wishing you Peace.

Thanks for flying in and have a great weekend.

  2. I remember that song, and haven't heard it in ages. This post is super!! How fun it would be to watch the birds pick the seeds out of the pinecones. Nature's birdfeeders. I love the snowman's visit to the feeder! But it may be short, as I know you will find him soon! I do not remember your acorn holding squirrel! He is really cute!

  6. I always enjoy stopping by to see what's going on at the birdfeeder. I can't blame that squirrel for being possessive of his acorn. Some treasures are too good to share.

  13. I've never noticed the birds eating pinecone seeds! How interesting. I'll have to round some up for them. Our temperatures here in Georgia are in the upper 60's.

    1. That 60's sounds wonderful Leslie. It was 50 here yesterday and it felt like a heatwave. Now it's back down to 40 :) The Goldfinches are strict vegetarians and the seeds from the cones are a favorite. Pinecones become a crucial winter food when all the other flowers die out, like another favorite, the sunflower.

  14. Hello Denise,
Fun post and cute captions. I love all the birds and your cute critter statues.
I have seen people rub peanut butter into the pine cones and cover them with bird seed too. The birds love it and the squirrels. I wish you a happy Christmas week ahead. Take care, have a great day and a happy weekend.
