AROUND AND ABOUT FROM 3-10-25 TO 3-2-16, 2025

Hello Family and Friends, once again here is the weekly around and about. Thank you for reading them and I have been enjoying the emails and comments you send me.

This week's weather from 3-17 to 3-24-25.

Monday, March 3-10-25 and Tuesday, 3-11-25: the same as last week basically. Enjoyable but quiet and I forgot to write anything down more’s the point.

Wednesday, March 3-12-25 at 10.47 p.m: We went over to Walney Pond today. I have already shared those photos at this link, but I found two old ones from August 2012. One shows you how pretty it is in the height of summer, when everything is lush and green, and the irises and waterlilies are blooming. The photo above shows my reflection in the water as I leaned over the old overlook.

We passed by a few days ago and I said we should go as even though it is not a paved footpath around the pond, it is nice and flat. We drove over a little after 3.00 a.m. There were only a few people enjoying the area. In addition to the pair of ducks and tortoises I mentioned before, there was a father with his young daughter carrying a fishing net on a pole as they looked into the water. It doesn't appear they found anything and went home soon after. They were probably there a while before we arrived. There was a man sitting on a bench talking on his phone, and a lady sitting on another bench enjoying a book and that was it. There is also a gazebo nearer the parking area, and there appeared to be a small gathering of people having a barbecue. We had a nice leisurely walk with a couple of sit-downs as we made our way around the pond. Very pleasant!

finished a new puzzle. No idea where this is, it reminds me of a town in Germany but the architecture is different.

We had chicken salad sandwiches tonight on toasted sourdough bread. A light supper and something we had not had in a while.

Thursday, 13th, 2025: I chatted with my niece in Germany. We had a wonderful and lengthy conversation. Gregg had just missed her as he had left to meet up with our son less than five minutes before.

A lovely day but if I don't write it down, it's in the wind lately.

Friday, March 14th, 2025: same here. I need to be more diligent. Gregg has been recording three short sentences on his phone for years. I should try recording key info and go on from there. Now that's a thought, if I can remember to do it!

Saturday, March 15th, 2025: Gregg went to the supermarket for our usual donut, that I do remember!

Lunch was cheese on toast and a bowl of tomato soup.

My dear other half has now gone off to the store to pick up some gorilla glue. I looked out this morning and saw that one of my lovely plant pots had a large piece broken out of one side!  I'm not pointing fingers but the Mourning Dove knows and is looking down at the culprit.

Naughty boy!

I keep the pot on the ground to avoid catastrophes. I think the culprit knocked the smaller bird feeder off the top of the feeding bench. There was a very loud bang, which I think was the pot as it broke. It's quite a sturdy looking pot too! It must have hit it in just the right spot as those feeders are not very big, or very heavy for that matter.

Dinner tonight was one of Gregg's cheeseburgers with sliced pickles and tomatoes, lettuce with lots of other veggies on the side.

Sunday morning, March 16th, 2025: breakfast today coffee and a lemon poppyseed muffin, which son picked up at our local coffee shop, with a pop-in to the supermarket next door for the donuts.

Lunch: a simple chicken and vegetable stir fry.

Dinner: for a change of pace, we had breakfast for our dinner. Gregg fixed bacon, egg and toast.

Snacks: veggie sticks.

Son came over for our usual Sunday morning get together. Later our son left but then brought our daughter-in-law back for another hour. They had more time to visit today. It was a lovely ending to the morning, and always a highlight of our day being with them.

Later on in the day I did a couple of scribble sketches. I picked a Chihuahua this time. I did two because I wasn't satisfied with the first one. It looked more like a cat to me.

Is it a bear, a Wookiee, definitely not a Chihuahua...

but the important thing is I enjoyed scribbling. I loved the original drawings. I have a soft spot for the Chihuahua, but if someone gave me an Old English Mastiff, I would be happy. The man is giving me the side-eye as there are no sweet pups in our future. I will use a favorite saying of his, "Never say never!" and if we did get a dog, it would be a rescue.

Nothing else to write about as we spent the rest of it very quietly.

And that's all for this week. I will try to write more regularly the next time.

Thanks for reading and have a great day!

  1. I think my favorite photo is the reflection of you snapping the water lilies. You continue to amaze me with your skill at drawing!

    1. I like that one too Ginny. Sometimes photos come out better than I expect and this was one of them. You are so kind about my drawings, I always want something that looks a little closer to the original, but I will take it and it's 100 percent if I take into account how much I enjoyed drawing them.

  2. wild clapping on your art, I love both of them and agree the first one is a little like a cat but like it anyway.. I enjoyed our visit with my sona dn his wife and know that feeling you were feeling. your photos are all great and the food each day is My Kind of Food. I lived alone in my life for 3 years and I had sandwiches two meals a day... sorry for the accident caused by you know who.... first ever meeting a tattle tale dove. ha ha

    1. Aww you are so kind and thank you for your lovely comment. I'm very happy you got to visit with your son and his wife. It's always a good feeling isn't it? It is easier for ours to visit as they only live 14 miles away. Yes, you-know-who or one of his many, many cousins I should say. I bought gorilla glue to fix it and hopefully that will work :) Yes, that dove is a tattle tale but a sweet one, haha! :)

  4. We have both Mourning Doves and squirrels in the back yard, and they have turned it into the orgy room. Yesterday when I looked out they were both, ahem, doing it! Made me quite envious!

  5. Hello Denise,
I love your cute art critters! The first shot of pond and reflection is lovely.
The dove and squirrel photos are great. The puzzle picture is lovely too.
Take care, have a wonderful day!

  6. When I saw the picture of the puzzle I was curious about where it was and thought it was maybe some place that you visited. So pretty.
I always love having breakfast for dinner. Wade and I used to do that quite often.
I love your sketches. You are very good.

    1. It would have been lovely to visit that place I agree Ann :) It's such a pretty scene. I am imagining homes with flat-roof terraces and how lovely it would be to sit there overlooking the town. How lovely that you and Wade had breakfast for dinner. My family and I back in the day - going back to childhood again - would often have a mixed grill. We should have added baked beans to the mix. Thanks for being so nice about my sketches, when I look at your drawings however, no comparison :)))

  7. That pond looks really beautiful. It does look like a chihuahua, but a slightly puffy one :-)

  10. Yes, the first one does resemble a cat, but a cute cat! The pond is gorgeous. My memory has been tricky lately, too. I've had dogs all of my life. The last died in 2023 and she will likely be the last. The house isn't quite the same without her, but the cats do fill the hole.

    1. Why thank you Sandra, and I'm glad you enjoy my accidental kitty-cat :) Yes, still sometimes walking into the next room and wondering why I went in there, lol! Same for me, our little dog has been gone for years. I also had dogs (and cats and rabbits) as a child, but mostly dogs in later days. I still miss our little black lab-dalmation mix, who used to make me smile when I heard her tail banging on the washing machine door when we arrived home. Such joy to be welcomed in such a way.

  11. That Gorilla Glue is some powerful stuff. We also used the gum sticky stuff from them to hang things we went removed later. That works pretty good for the most part.

I love that there is a flat walk area around the pond. Very pretty picture. Looks peaceful.

    1. It is, and not to be put on with my usual dilly-dally. I always wear rubber gloves now. Never heard of the gum sticky stuff. I'll have to look out for that. All I can manage lately is a flat walk around any area. I long to get back to the hilly gardens again :) It's a good goal to have. Thanks Ivy!

    2. Gorilla removable mounting putty. That's the stuff. At HomeDepot. When we have to plant a peanut in the mouse trap, I use a little of putty and the mouse can't get the nut out. Sad but true story.

Yes, good goal to have. Though I don't fancy all kinds of bumps and hills too much. I'm clumsy at times.

    3. I never heard of the gorilla putty either. I will have to take a look around the Home Depot around here. I have a few things I could use it for. Thanks for the heads up Ivy :) Well, I have most definitely had my clumsy moments :)))

  12. Excellent review Denise. I love chicken salad too. haven't had it on sourdough I know that was good.
We had a successful visit with H&R Block today. Glad that is over.
Tonight we have leftover corned beef brisket, carrots, cabbage, potatoes and corn bread. It is one of those meals that is so good left over.
    Hugs to you and Gregg

    1. Thank you Cecilia :) Good for you on the H&R Block visit, something we will have to do very soon. I know the feeling about getting that over with. I am curious as to what bread you used for your chicken salad sandwiches? We have had it on white and wheat bread. Your leftovers sound wonderful! This kind of meal tastes even better the next day doesn't it? Hugs to you and your dear husband also (sorry I don't have his name and must check next time I visit).

  17. The wander around the park looks just lovely. I would need many sit downs, I think--lol! That puzzle--oh, how fun it would be to walk that cobblestone street! How beautiful, wherever it is from. A lemon poppyseed muffin! I haven't had one of those for many years...sounds delicious. Your drawings are good even if the one looks a bit more like a cat--lol! I have a really soft spot for chihuahuas! I had a male and female when I was a teenager. We let them have puppies three times and oh goodness! Those puppies are soooo cute with their big ears. Nice that you got a good visit with your son and DIL. Have a wonderful rest of your week. :)

    1. Thanks Rita, it is a lovely place and I needed many sit downs also :) I'd like to walk down that street too and I sure could go for one of those muffins right now. It most definitely looks like a cat my drawing, lol! How wonderful that you had chihuahuas at one time. And oh my, I bet those puppies were beyond cute! We were real happy our DIL could joined us. Thank you so much and you have a wonderful rest of the week too :)

  21. yaaay for finishing your puzzle. What a charming town that is. It looks a bit like Spain or maybe Italy. The cheeseburgers sound Yummy. I hope the glue was able to fix your flower pot. I would guess it was that mischievous squirrel who broke it. Don't care for them at all. They are always gathering on my lawn.

  22. What a sweet dove - love that photo! And I love the idea of writing three sentences every day/evening. Does he do this in an app...or just in a text form? I need to be more diligent about recalling all the goodness that is in each day (but I love that you remember the donuts and other yummy things you had to eat each day!!) :)

    1. Thank you Jennifer :) I have lots of sweet doves that visit in the back. I know he talks into his phone but I will have to ask him if it is an app or a text. He probably told me at one time but I have forgotten. I will get back to you on that :) So glad you like what I write down. I do it because I am trying to eat healthier and when I have a treat I like to have a record so that I don't repeat it too often :)))
