I found these in one of the flower beds before we went inside the visitor center. I was happy to see them blooming and looking so healthy at this time of the year, and the small bee was enjoying a snack. These are Echinacea Sombrero Lemon Yellow Coneflower~

MEADOWLARK GARDENS ON 10-27-21 - PART 2
And quite a jump from flowers to this little chap. Straight through the doors of the visitor center and immediately to the left is a terrarium that contains Sunshine (I named him long ago). He is a Bearded Dragon I have shared before. I always stay for a few minutes and we have a little chat. Usually there are no others around and perhaps they would think this quite odd, but it's been a habit since childhood. I was always bringing home things that my mother found good homes for. There were no bearded dragons where I lived of course, but there were frogs. We had a cat, a dog and several rabbits but there was always room for more. The pet white rat I told you about before, which my friend's mother told me I could have, according to my mother, was very homesick for his own family, and she had to take him back. (My mother had her own conversations with all living things, including the white rat.) I was upset but I understood. It hadn't been long that I had returned from a school trip, and I had been terribly homesick. There are other terrariums in the visitor center. These contain fish and frogs, but Sunshine is the only one I have a conversation with. He looks at the lady with her face near the glass, with an expression of understanding that makes me smile. "Uh-huh." he says.
More views of the Fairy Garden mentioned in Friday’s post...
with the visitor center in the background.
and the tower can be seen where the remaining fairies are still fitting in some flying practice.Several of the trees are being decorated with fairy lights.
It was interesting to go to the garden to see all the work being done for their Winter Walk of Lights starting in November. You can check that out at this link. It is going to look very pretty in the dark. We had a small preview in all the shaded areas around the garden.
Further down the hill we saw people working. All these fixtures had sandbags on their bases to stop them from falling over as they hadn’t long been placed in position.
These will be very pretty also.
I am looking forward to coming back for the Winter Walk of Lights, to see everyone's hard work come to life. I have more photos taken at the garden, but that's all of the decorations for now.
Thanks for joining me today and enjoy the rest of your week.

Thank you so for taking the time to leave a comment. I enjoy reading them very much and always try to return a visit. As I do monitor comments it may take a while for them to appear, even quite late depending on what is going on and how much time I am able to spend on the computer.
I appreciate all who look at my blog, but I won't be publishing any businesses. If you are only able to publish anonymously, would you sign your name please, and leave an addy so I can return your visit where possible? Thank you!

That place is simply amazing. I bet it will look fantastic with all those lights on. That fairy garden is something I would love to see in person.
ReplyDeleteHi Ann, I am excited about seeing the lights when we go at night. I definitely get in touch with my inner child at this place :)

# Have a wonderful day
Hi Tanza, can't wait to see those lights all lit up at night :) You have a wonderful day also.
DeleteThe bearded dragon is a grand fellow.
ReplyDeleteHi William, he certainly is :)
Deletethe decorations are gorgeous in the sun and I know they are stunning at night.. I wish ours winter walk here would have a early am walk, before daylight. we don't go out at night but would in the am... Sunshine is so sweet and beautiful and I would talk to her also... I could bring nothing home because daddy was a pet hater. but somehow stray dogs followed me home. and for some reason hung around, not that anyone through scraps out for them. I am like you and your family. I love critters and my son David filled the house with turtles and rats and gerbils and snakes. until one got out of the aquarium and i found a king snaked coiled up alseep in the jeans drawer.. then the snakes moved out in the back yard. he now has 7 dogs, had 9 and a cat but they are slowly dying of very old age
ReplyDeleteAll the animals were on my Dad's side of the family when he was growing up. He got that from his Mom. My Mom didn't have any pets when she was growing up, so I think she was super to put up with all the animals we had. I think it's wonderful that you've passed on the critter love to your son :) Fun to read your memories. If I could have had a snake I probably would have :) I have always been fascinated with reptiles.
DeleteThat will be a fun winter walk for sure with all the lights on. I'd like to put some lights on our trees this winter.
ReplyDeleteThat would b lovely Ellen :)
DeleteI love that you talk to the bearded dragon. I talk to some critters myself.
ReplyDeleteThat garden is going to amazing once they get all the lights going. Nothing better than a decorated garden.
Well, in my way of thinking, we are all connected if we only have the ears to listen :) It makes me happy to know another critter talker out there. Thanks Yogi!
