I've seen lots of possum, they eat ticks and are beneficial, here is one visiting before out screen porch - https://bluestarrgallery.blogspot.com/2015/04/a-frequent-visitor.html
I knew all of this except being immune to rabies. Possums are so cool, and I think they are kind of pretty! Except when they open their mouth and hiss.
Yes, that one was good to know, about the rabies. They are a very cool animal and the last time I saw one was at night, and his coat was so fluffy. I think I saw a show on TV where one had gotten inside someone's cupboard in their kitchen. I forget how it got there but when the man tried to remove it I saw those teeth! Would not want to be in that position, I have to say :)
Yes, they are nocturnal here too but with more of their land being taken away for housing, you find them in the area I've learned. Thank you William :)
An image full of information. For me, Opossums, like all animals, must be respected and protected, they are important for ecological balance. Have a great weekend
Thank you so for taking the time to leave a comment. I enjoy reading them very much and always try to return a visit. As I do monitor comments it may take a while for them to appear, even quite late depending on what is going on and how much time I am able to spend on the computer.
I appreciate all who look at my blog, but I won't be publishing any businesses. If you are only able to publish anonymously, would you sign your name please, and leave an addy so I can return your visit where possible? Thank you!

ReplyDeleteI thought so too Christine, thank you :)
DeleteI think they stick to the countryside here, and are nocturnal anyway.

ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend
Thank you Maria, I agree wholeheartedly :) You have a great weekend also.
DeleteI was never quite fond of possums when we lived in Illinois, but the thought of them eating 5,000 ticks a year certainly makes them more desirable.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen one in our area, though I know they must be here. 5,000 ticks a year is a good resume ;) Thanks Kay!
