Would one of you knowledgeable birders know what this little one is? It looks very young to me.
We started the month off by going to Huntley Meadows Park in Alexandria, Virginia. We were last there at the beginning of July. I will have more photos of our walk later. It was a very hot but very enjoyable walk.
Added note: I would like to thank Ginny and David who identified my little bird as a young Red-winged Blackbird. Two wonderful blogs and you can click on their names to visit.

I wish I knew what breed this bird is, Denise, but unfortunately I don't. I love the colours and markings, though!
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda :)
DeleteIt is very cute. Looks like a baby red winged blackbird to me.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ginny. I was wondering if that's what it was.
DeleteI will be very interested to learn what this little cutie is.
ReplyDeleteThanks EC, me too.
DeleteYour birds are so different from ours that I have not got a clue!! Have a great weekend Diane
ReplyDeleteThank you Diane, you have a great weekend also :)
DeleteGood morning, Denise. Ginny above is quite correct. Your bird is a juvenile Red-winged Blackbird. It's a very handsome bird in my opinion, with subtle markings and an element of suaveness about it! But just think what a Jim Dandy he (if it is a he) will be when he wear his black coat with striking red epaulettes later in life! Have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteHello David, thank you for confirming the id of my bird. He is lovely and now I know what he is I am veyr happy. Interestingly enough I usually see a lot of adult male and female black wings flying around this area, but none that day. Just this little one.
DeleteIt is definitely a young bird but you being where you are I probably wouldn't be able to identify it.
ReplyDeleteThanks to Ginny and David, I have the ID Valerie :)
Deleteit does look young but I know nothing, but you knew that
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandra, have a great weekend :)
DeleteA cute little bird. I know very little about birds. Have a beautiful weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you Nancy, you too.
DeleteIt has to be juvenile, but as to what kind, that's beyond me.
ReplyDeleteThanks William, we have an ID now :) I added on a note to my post.

DeleteHi Denise, I was going to comment that David would be the man to tell you, then I had a look and saw his comment that it was a juvenile Red-winged Blackbird. All the best, John
