On Wednesday we took a drive to Frederick, Maryland. It took us about an-hour-and-a-half. First of all we stopped in the visitor center. A gentleman directed us to the multi-story car park. From there it was only a short walk to the riverwalk. Here are a few photos taken and I will share more in the next post I do on Frederick.
There were several people out walking their dogs.
There were two bridges we saw to cross the canal. There is a story about them, which I will share next time.
Isn't this a beautiful, whimsical clock? It is decorated with zodiak signs and is created by artist Nikolai Pakhomov. He is also the owner of a firm called Iron Masters. There is one on either side of the bridge, which individually weighs about a ton. According to the company's interpretation, "the theme of the design was reconnecting time, universe and humanity."
Looking one way....
and then in the opposite direction.
We saw a few ducks....
On this one people had placed some love locks, like I saw in Paris a couple of years ago.
The ones in Paris have since been removed. There were so many, the weight of them was damaging the bridges.
It hasn't gotten too bad....
yet.
I think these are apartments.
One last shot of the ducks to end this post.

Denise, I absolutely love the views and reflections in your photos! Some people here in Montreal have begun doing the love locks at Montreal's Old Port but the authorities there are keeping an eye open, as they don't want any accidents due to the weight of them. I love that clock! Thank you so much for sharing this lovely tour, I always enjoy your posts.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, you are very welcome. Happy you enjoyed the post. Those locks on bridges were in certain places in England if I remember correctly. Thank you for the sweet comment.
DeleteThis place is amazing, I have never seen such a thing. In the first picture there are steps, but they lead to the water. What state is this? I never heard of Love Locks. The clock is gorgeous and intricate! LOVE the color!
ReplyDeleteHi Ginny, I loved the clock also. So different. This is in Maryland.
DeleteOops, it is even in your title, and I missed it. I was too flabbergasted with your pictures. I used to live in Maryland, too! So is this the Potomac?
ReplyDeleteNo problem, I often have to look at a post a couple of times. The photos often take our focus away :) The stretch of water is called Carrol Creek.
DeleteVery beautiful pictures, Denise. I love the architecture of the brick building. The love locks are new to me, also. Wishing you a delightful weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mildred. I hope your weekend was a wonderful one also :)
DeleteIntrigued about the love locks and I'm glad you posted a close-up.Seems like a crazy idea to me. i like the clock very much. Nice shot of the mallards in their whirlpools.
ReplyDeleteI first found out about them a few years ago. Not sure how this custom started. Thanks for visiting Valerie :)
Deletethat would be a lovely spot to live in those apartments. even the steps are gorgeous in that first photo. I love the views up and down the water and the locks and metal designs and awesome clock. Gorgeous photos today
ReplyDeleteThank you Sandra, I rather like those apartments myself.
DeleteThe bridges are beautiful! One of our bridges here seems to be a magnet for those love locks. I can't stand the things.
ReplyDeleteI see those locks with new eyes now.
DeleteWhat a relaxing place to live... Those apartments in the converted old building... Always able to see water...
ReplyDeleteYou were in Paris, rather recently? We were, way back in 1999. My husband "gave me Paris", for our 40th Anniversary. :-)
Don't remember love locks then, but might not have noticed them.
Personally, I don't see the point, of love locks. It looks like a fad. "They did it, so we will do it" kind of a thing. They mare the beauty of a bridge, and do get too heavy.
Mmmmm, do I sound like a cranky old lady?????? -grin-
Hi LC, that was a lovely anniversary gift. Maybe the locks weren't there in 1999. I am not sure when the tradition started. It did go on for years and at first I thought it a novel idea, then I learned about the damage the weight of all of them were causing. I think I would discourage it in Frederick. It would be a shame to cover all that beautifully decorated iron work. Well, from one cranky old lady to another, lol :)))
DeleteWhat a fun trip. Love the canal and those awesome bridges. That clock...wow! The bridge it is on, too. Just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Marie :)
DeleteHi Denise and what a super place to visit, the bridges are wonderful in particular the first with the clock, such magical colours. All the best to you and yours, John
ReplyDeleteThank you John and all the best to you and yours also, Denise.
DeleteWhat a beautiful way to spend the day! It reminds me a little of some of the places I went when I visited New England a while ago.
ReplyDeleteIt is a lovely town.
DeleteI've been to Frederick but it's been a few years. I see they've been beautifying the park. I should go back!
ReplyDeleteWe look forward to going back ourselves as I know there is a lot more to see.
DeleteWhimsical clock is eye capturing. Happy sunday!
ReplyDeleteThank you and have a great week :)
DeleteWow! The photos you took of Carrol Creek are so pretty! I really appreciate the pictures of the love locks on the bridge and think that the whimsical clock is so pretty. Thank you for taking the time to take all of those pretty pictures and I hope you have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteThank you, so glad you enjoyed the photos. I hope you have a wonderful week also.
DeleteLooks a lovely place to visit and walk too.
ReplyDeleteLovely bridges and I like that clock - unusual colour.
All the best Jan
Thank you Jan :)
DeleteYou are very fortunate that you can drive to another state. We would have to fly.
ReplyDeleteWe do enjoy traveling out of state.
DeleteHello Denise, wonderful views of the riverwalk. I love the bridges and the clock. Cute ducks. Looks like an awesome visit and day trip. Happy Monday, enjoy your new week!
ReplyDeleteHi Eileen, thank you and the same to you :)
Deletewhat a pretty area. such wonderful details you have captured. I had seen the love locks on t.v. at some point. I can see how they could become a weight issue.
ReplyDeletethe GS is beautiful and I always love seeing Mallards. :)

Marie
Thank you Marie :)
