A POEM

Poet's Tree

Underneath the poet tree
Come and rest a while with me,
And watch the way the world-web weaves
Between the shady story leaves.
The branches of the poet tree
Reach from the mountain to the sea.
So come and dream, or come and climb.
Just don't get hit by falling rhymes.

~Shel Silverstein~

  1. Trees are a work of art aren't they? Across all the genres. Painting, sculpture, poetry...

  8. I used a lot of Shel Silverstein with my middle school kids. Kids would actually have favorite poems by Silverstein.

  9. Hi Denise, such lovely words but with my luck the falling rhymes would be in a very heavy book. Regards John

  12. I don't think I could live without trees. Other landscapes have their own charms, perhaps, but to live on a bald prairie, or arctic tundra would not appeal to me. What is more pleasant than to seek the shade of a spreading tree on a hot summer's day?
