These were taken on one of our drives when we were on vacation a few weeks' ago. Whenever we looked at the temperature it always seemed to be a constant 81 degrees, lovely compared to the chilly 20's we are experiencing right now.
The photo below shows Diamond Head Lighthouse. You can read its history here.
Some of the homes had the most magnificent gates.
The next two photos were taken on the grounds of our hotel.
This one is a gazebo.
One of the things I love about Hawaii is that you will find chickens everywhere. In the city, in the countryside. They don't belong to anyone in particular and are considered wild chickens. My sister-in-law told me that if they roam on your property they can be considered yours.
Chicks trying to get some snooze time.
As were the aunties.
Papa Rooster was trying to keep a low profile.
Five more facts about Hawaii. I mentioned a few in a previous post.
1. Hawaii was the 50th state admitted to the union on August 20th, 1959.
2. Hawaii is the only state that grows coffee.
3. More than one-third of the world's commercial supply of pineapples comes from Hawaii.
4. There are only 12 letters in the Hawaiian Alphabet.
Vowels: A, E, I, O, U
Consonants: H, K, L, M, N, P, W
5. The Iolani Palace in Honolulu is the only royal palace in the United States. Electric lights illuminated Iolani Palace four years before the White House in Washington D.C. had them.

ReplyDeleteI loved your post today. Back (in the stone age hehe) my husband was stationed in Oahu, Barber's Point. We lived in a small apartment near the end of the canal and could see Diamond Head from our backyard. My son was born in Tripler Army Hospital there. The cost of living was so high, so when my hubby was offered a new duty station on Midway Island we left Oahu. It became a state shortly afterward.
ReplyDeleteChicken everywhere? LOL.... my side same too....hmmm...not in the city center but out of the city, there are chicken roaming everywhere
ReplyDeleteIt looks delightful!
ReplyDeleteIt looks a beautiful environment and I like the idea of the chickens freely roaming around. Love the gate and the gazebo in the hotel grounds with the old vine-like tree growing up and over the roof.
ReplyDeleteThe gates are really quite artistic and beautiful that's for sure, and it made me wonder what the house behind them looked like, Denise. Interesting facts about chicken ownership and Hawaii. Does the coffee that's grown there stay for local sale or is it exported?
ReplyDeleteGreat post and of course the chickens are my favorite.
