HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE - ODDS AND BODS - SUNDAY 11/2/24

I am not quite awake yet but I am getting there.

How are you doing?

and now a message from Squirrel.

Me? I will always look for a field of sunflowers. I hope you will join me 🌻 I know we have all had our dark days.

I am having my one and only coffee of the day.

First word of the day.  Well, you will have to ask Gregg on this one!

Grumpy mug where are you? You need to make this mug smile. It looks like it has a bit of an attitude, ya think?

All I can say is, I would never drink these, but I would take lots of photos.

Here's my dream cottage for today.

I would gladly live here if...

that sweet dog comes too.

Time for sleeps.

I just found this. How about a cute little cat vase. If you have some pennies put away or waiting for a gift from Santa or want to give someone a gift from Santa, you can buy this here. Or maybe you have a talented someone who could make something similar. I will ask my dear other half. Oh, I just did and he is still guffawing, because we both kind of look at a screw driver and say, what's that for? More than a slight exaggeration but I think you get my drift.

But now for some wise words.

Time for some fun with food.

Moo?

I found this very interesting. I have never tried any of them but will look into it next summer if needed, hopefully not needed. These natural remedies would be much better than the chemical ones.

and you'll have to let me know if this works, but ask your doctor first! Again, hopefully not needed for any of us.

This would be real pretty to create in the garden.  It would take forever to collect all those stones, but maybe a smaller version?

Or this, definitely a smaller version for me but a wonderful work of gardening art. I think my garden menagerie would enjoy this.

Yowza!

Last but not least…as I am coming to the end of my post.

...and mine too.

Thanks for stopping by everyone, and may your day be full of sunshine.

(With thanks to Pinterest for the inspiration.)

A LITTLE HUMOR

A cartoon to tickle the funny bone.

I have seen versions of the three wise monkeys for years but never really thought how they originated.  Apparently, they date back to 17th Century Japanese carvings.  The three are Mizaru (see no evil) covering his eyes, Kikazaru (hear no evil) covering his ears, and Iwazaru (speak no evil) covering his mouth.  Sometimes there is a fourth monkey, Shizaru (do no evil) crossing his arms, but as in the cartoon above, he seems to have taken up blogging!

I received additional information later.  Someone who saw my original blog post (this is from my old blog) commented, "Zaru is actually the Japanese word for monkey (though the proper noun is Saru), and their names are literally seemonkey, hearmonkey and saymonkey."

Here is a poem I found online.

Three small monkeys on my table
Each as good as he is able,

Not to see or hear or say
Things unpleasant through the day.

One with hands across his eyes,
Careful that he never spies,

Does not see the faults of others,
Neither playmates nor his brother.

One with fingers in his ears
That he's sure he never lies,

Now the third with fingertips
Gently placed upon the lips,

That he may not speak unkind
Thoughts that enter his mind,

Now without the fingertips
Pressing closely on the lips,

He should guard the tongue as well,
And be cautious what we tell.

May the conscience be our guide
Telling what to see or hide;

Let us learn without delay
What to see or hear or say.

THE NATIONAL ZOO IN WASHINGTON DC, FROM JUNE 2009

I am thankful for old posts so that I can keep my blog going while not being able to share new places with you.  Looking through them lets me relive times such as this one, when we saw the family of Western Lowland Gorillas.  Yes, it would be preferable to see them in their own natural habitat, but I remember being very thankful that we had the opportunity to see them that day.

I had always hoped back in my teens, and when I got my very first job with a travel agents - the job only lasted a couple of years - that I would become a tour guide and take clients on trips all around the world.

I enjoyed watching nature shows from everywhere imaginable, and was especially enamored with the animals in Africa.  I loved seeing them at the zoo and that day there was a new baby with its mother.

As we stood looking at this sweet family, we met a nice couple who had traveled from Saint Louis especially to see them, and to attend a related zoo function. They were very much involved with our gorilla family, and knew all their names and history. They also told us that they had contributed to the family's care for several years.

You can read all about the Western Lowland Gorilla at the zoo’s website here.  Just like the Smithsonian Museums in Washington DC, the National Zoo has no admission charge.
