AN OLD FAVORITE - PEACOCK PROFILE

We were on vacation 11 years ago, near my hometown at the Paignton Zoo in South Devonshire (UK). This handsome fellow was walking around freely. He wasn't too far away and was obviously used to being around people.

If you would like to see other photos I took of their peacocks, you can go to this link

I will leave you with this.

"How come it can't fly no better than a chicken?" Milkman asked.

"Too much tail. All that jewelry weighs it down. Like vanity. Can't nobody fly with all that stuff. Wanna fly, you got to give up the stuff that weighs you down."

The peacock jumped onto the hood of the Buick and once more spread its tail, sending the flashy Buick into oblivion."

~Toni Morrison - Song of Solomon ~

Thanks for stopping by.

Happy Weekend!

  1. A great saying, it also refers to people and their vanity.

  4. That's gorgeous Denise. Love peacocks :-D

My ankle is still healing. I am back to a fairly normal life though it doesn't have a good range of movement. I am working 2 hours a days weekdays and it can cope with that. Each night, no matter what I do, it's still very swollen. So might as well do things lol. I can walk for a while but slowly. They said it's gonna take ages to get better anyway and for the swelling to go. They were happy I can walk unaided and drive and am back working. Honestly Denise, I am just so grateful to be able to walk, do basic things and drive. These simple things in life eh. Thanks so much for asking <3

    1. Thank you Ananka! I appreciate you letting me know how you are healing. I am sure it is going to take a long time for your ankle to be 100 percent, but sounds like you are heading in the right direction and you have a great attitude, which is half the battle. I agree, the simple things in life, things we normally take for granted until they start answering back :) Continued healing wishes my friend.

OMword I sang with it an thought of you
It was the song "Oh Denise" by Randy and the Rainbow. I adored that song in the 1960s.

  16. Oh, what a gorgeous throwback! Paignton Zoo is such a fantastic place, and there is nothing quite like the thrill of a peacock just casually strolling past you on the footpath. They act like they absolute own the place, don't they? You captured his profile so beautifully, the colors on his neck are just mesmerizing.

That quote from Toni Morrison is absolutely incredible. It gave me chills! "Wanna fly, you got to give up the stuff that weighs you down"—what a powerful, profound truth to carry into the weekend. It really makes you pause and think about what "jewelry" or extra weight we are holding onto that keeps us from truly soaring.

It has been 11 years since that trip, do you still get back to South Devonshire very often to visit your hometown?

Thank you for sharing this beautiful memory and such a perfect quote. Sending you the biggest hugs and wishing you a truly wonderful, restful weekend!

    1. I am so happy you enjoyed this Melody and thank you greatly. I am very happy you enjoyed. Toni’s paragraph was profound and very wise right? From her bio she was obviously an amazing lady. I was happy to have found these lines to share.

My last trip home was in 2015 and was probably my last one. When my parents passed away, things changed for me, though I still love the place and always will have those great memories.

Thank you again for writing such a sweet comment, which meant a lot to me. My wishes for you are the same you sent to me dear Melody :) I look forward to visiting your blog soon.
