HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE. - HORSES IN VIRGINIA

Old photos I thought I would share again, going back as far as a couple of months after I started blogging in April 2008. In a couple of years, I will have been blogging for 20 years, starting with another blog - since closed but available for me to share with you when I haven't been doing much. I opened this one in 2016.

We often went for a ride on the weekends. We found these gorgeous horses and for the life of me, I can't remember where. Gregg to this day is great for following his nose and taking a road we have never traveled before. We don't have to ride long before we reach horse country.

Aren't they beautiful?

Just look at their expressions?

It just says, "I'm disgusted, where is my apple and the least you could have brought us were a few cubes of sugar? Don't come back next time without them!"

I would have loved to have fed them a few carrots, or an apple, or a cube of sugar. I didn't actually have anything but probably wouldn't have fed them. I'm not sure their owner would have been happy with me doing that, and I felt I was taking a liberty asking Gregg to stop the car so that I could take a few pictures. They ambled over immediately, for that treat maybe?

I thanked them for their company, and for the photos. Truly, I love these beautiful animals, and I so rarely get to see them now, except from a distance

  1. Yep, you're getting the side eye for not providing carrots. Pretty and big! Linda in Kansas

  7. Taking a weekend, or weekday drive, is a wonderful experience or rather was before gas prices started the upwards climb. Thanks for sharing these photos of one of yours, Denise.

  11. I adore horses...never rode or had one but they are just such sweet creatures.
We stayed at a B&B in Goshen, VA years ago. I recall seeing lots of horses in the Lexington area too.

    1. Agree! I have ridden them in my youth. Memorable experiences, once when a friend and I had lessons and the other along a forest path in Ireland. Both memorable experiences :) Hugs, Denise

  13. You are getting the side eye. You were correct In not feeding them without the consent of the owner. If you don't know what you are doing you could be bit. Speaking for myself, if someone stops to look at the horses or take photos is fine. I've had people stop and ask if they could pet the horses. I am fortunate to have spent a life with these majestic beasts! When I was a child we always took a Sunday drive.

    1. Thank you Sandra, I'm always inclined not to feed any animal without their owner's permission. We never know about health issues and consequent dietary restrictions. It's so kind of you to let people stop by and pet your horses. We used to have those Sunday drives too as children. It was a way of life, especially after dad bought his first car. I was very young when that happened.

  14. They are lovely, and came up to see you!! There are quite a few horses here, and some have signs on the fence that say "Do not feed the horses". So probably better that you didn't have any food for them.

    1. It was a joy and they certainly seemed to enjoy being around people. Humans automatically want to feed others, it seems to be in our genetic makeup :) I am wary when the rare situation presents itself though. We just never know if we are giving them the right kind of food.

Beautiful horses. I know when my brother took me touring around Virginia, I always admired the horse country and beautiful fencing they had!

  21. What a gorgeous throwback, and I can't believe you are approaching 20 years of blogging, that is such an incredible milestone! Gregg's knack for "following his nose" on weekend drives always seems to lead to the best adventures and hidden gems. Those horses are absolutely stunning, and your caption about their disgusted expressions for the lack of treats cracked me up. It’s always best to play it safe and not feed them, but they certainly did their part posing so beautifully for your camera.
