ODDS AND BODS FOR TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 3RD, 2026

You can enlarge any of the images below for clearer details.

1.

My neighborhood squirrel and I were having a chat this morning. We both agreed on this one.

2.

I am, is it because of this weather? Well maybe but…
3.

I read the weather forecast for later.

4.

For the cat lovers…

5.

and for the dog lovers…

6.
Case in point and another memory. Years ago, when we had our beloved dog Bridgette, Gregg came back from a business trip up north somewhere. He had been given a packet of beef sticks from a client, who told him these were the best he would ever taste. Gregg agreed with him, bought and tucked a packet into his suitcase. Noticing Bridgette salivating after he returned home after unpacking his suitcase, he put the packet on top of the dresser draw in our bedroom, as far back as he could. It was a very high chest of drawers. Hours later after we returned from a shopping trip, and dear other half went upstairs, I noticed Bridgette acting a little oddly. From the bedroom I heard, “What the heck?” Torn wrapping was found all over the bed and on the floor. He came down, showed her the evidence and said, “Bridgette, what did you do?” Usually she would follow him upstairs but this time she stayed by my side. Her ears went flat on her head and she looked very guilty. We never yelled at her and we didn’t this time either. She was a nervous dog, a black lab/Dalmatian mix, and we were the third family in her life, having been shipped back to the pound by previous owners. Animals follow their instincts, especially when food is around, and it was a reminder. We should have put them away more securely. A while later I saw her get on the end of our bed, stretch across to the dresser with her paws resting on the top, just nosying around. Maybe a beef stick had been overlooked but no, she had been very thorough. Another lesson learned by the humans, where there’s a will, there’s a way.

7.

I finished another jigsaw puzzle on my iPad.

8.

Are you a….?

9.

Yes I am and what a lovely word this is.

10.

A few wise words.

11.

but also, don't forget that at times you should...

12.

13.

Cleaning solutions are always interesting. I have not tried them yet but always save with that thought in mind. Next time, I intend to do a small patch first, to see if it works okay.

14.
My dream cottage…

15.

with a pretty dream kitchen and dining area.

16.

A cozy nook…

17.

and a place to rest my head.

18.

Anytime works for me but his question is...

19.

Somewhere I would love to have this window set-up.

20.

Then there is its own secret garden.

21.

We are going to have to fit this in somewhere.

22.

How about a recipe? (Non-tried but they are on my to-make list.)

23.

This would go very nicely with the soup recipe.

24.

Almost time to go but first...

25.

All for now!

Thanks for stopping by and
I hope you catch some joy today.

  1. Wonderful post, I'm so happy to read all the lovely memes!
Your puzzle with the fox is so cute! I can only manage a half-hour nap, but my sweetheart takes a 1-2 hour nap, and he's perfectly happy with it!
Spring has vanished here on the coast where I live; the wind is blowing icy cold.
Have a happy day , hugs Elke

And I have always said that no one will love you more in this world than your dog <3 I used to have dog, but when me and my ex split he took the dog and I got the cats. BRIDGETTE WAS LUCKY TO BE LOVED BY YOUR FAMILY. YEP DOGS ARE LOYAL 24/7 UNTIL THEIR NOSE GETS A SCENT. WE HAD A MIGHTY MINI DACHSHUND. HE ATE ALL BOUT ABOUT 4 FIG NEWTONS ONE TIME AND IT WAS THE ONLY TIME.
HE HAD A SERIOUS CASE OF THE 'RUNS'!!

    1. Thank you very much Cecilia and so glad you enjoyed my story about Bridgette. I have so many more funny tales, I will have to share them sometime. Your little dachshund had good taste, fig newtons are very popular around here, but they seemed to have had unfortunate consequences on your sweet dog. Thanks for sharing about your sweet dachshund. I've always loved those little dogs. Hugs, Denise :)

  8. I love it how dogs get a guilty conscience. Our collie was that way. Lizzie has no conscience!

  11. Denise, this was a lovely post especially the soup and bread recipes at the end. The story about your dog finding the beef sticks was a fun read and glad you did not scold her. I also enjoy reading in bed and like that word to describe one who does.

  12. I love your fox puzzle because I adore foxes. I did not know about your dog! What made you adopt her when others had turned him in? How long did you have her?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That's great Ginny, me too. We adopted her through a neighbor. Bridgette was allowed to wander all over the neighborhood and got our neighbors very annoyed, but my son knew her for a year as he played with the children of that family. When the lady told our son "We're going to take Bridgette down to the pound and you know what they do with dogs down there. Would you like her?" At 8 years old, our son came home bawling his head off, could we take her? Well, we didn't need to think long about it. We knew that she had come from an abusive home into theirs. She was scared to death of people with thick glasses and also of beards. My husband wore dark brown rimmed glasses and she avoided him for a long time, even though he tried hard but he just had to let her come to him on her own. She did eventually after he figured it out about the glasses and would take them off. He needed them to see though. Her eye wobbled probably because she had been hit the vet told us. She trembled every time we stretched out to stroke her head. It was a long road, but she became a much-beloved part of the family, the instant that she came into it and with time and patience, became a very special dog and part of our family. I still miss her! I have a hundred or so other stories about her but better quit now. Maybe I will tell a few eventually.

  14. that is exactly how my mother made potato soup, and now I wonder if she got that from Kentucky when I was a child... she used to put a piece of what daddy called fat back, in it, which is thick sliced bacon and it cooked with it. I made a pot of it 3 weeks ago for a cold day and put the left over in the freezer and Bob had it for lunch this week, our coldest days this year. or ever. I loved each and every part as it changed from one to another. all of them are perfect. The day we brought big boy home from the shelter, all 79 lbs of him, he was terrified of our back yard, appeared to never have seen trees and green grass, he sat staring at it as if he were scared. I put him in the house and went back outside to do something and when I opened the door, there in the middle of the living room was Big, with an entire loaf of frozen white bread, half of which he was swallowing quickly. we both burst into laughter and we still laugh when we talk about it. we had never had a dog that bother anything on the counters. we learned our lesson quickly. ha ha train the trainer

    1. That's great Sandra, must take you back and the way your mom made it sure sounded good. Gregg and I often say food nostalgia can be powerful. Certain dishes, smells, remind us of our childhood on many occasions. That's a sweet story about Beau. I can just imagine that scene and it gave me a big smile. Thanks for sharing that, loved, loved, loved it! :)

  20. Lovely post, Denise. Van Gogh's cat really made me giggle. My son has two cats and I can just imagine the two of them doing that with a vase.
I have started using white vinegar and lemon to clean with quite a lot lately. I don't use many other cleaners now.
Thank you for sharing your lovely story about Bridgette, she sounds like such a sweet dog.

    1. Thank you Beverley, very happy you enjoyed :) I had a chuckle myself when I found Van Gogh's cat. I bet your son has a few stories about his. That's wonderful you using the white vinegar and lemon. I can't use any of the other cleaning products now. They are way too strong and not that healthy I don't think. I remember having two episodes when I was in places where something was used that I was allergic to, and I couldn't catch my breath. I had to leave the area immediately and I was much better in the fresh air but it took a while to completely recover. I am very leery about cleaning products now.
