SATURDAY MORNING AT THE BIRD FEEDER - TUFTED TITMOUSE IN SNOW

Blogger has been having a problem with the 'reply' button, and I haven't been able to respond to any of your comments on my own blog as the dialog box won't open. Hopefully, this will clear up soon as I am told this has been happening intermittently since last year. This is the first time I have had it myself. Hopefully it will get back to normal within a day or two. I will still be visiting your blogs as soon as I can. Has anyone else had this problem?

Today (1-24-26) we are expecting 10 inches of snow followed by ice. It was 21 inches and hopefully it will be even less. It is not supposed to start until approximately 11.00 p.m. These photos for today were taken a few years' ago after another snowstorm.  Our feathered friend arrived after I had filled the feeders and the water bowl. He stayed around long enough for me to take these photos.

Timothy the Tufted Titmouse is thinking about that one....

and finally came to this non-conclusion.

Here's a bit of information I found online: "Birds will eat snow if water is not readily available but providing fresh, liquid water to birds in freezing temperatures is essential for their hydration and feather maintenance. You should not give them hot water. Use a heated birdbath to keep water just above freezing (36 to 40 degrees F.), as too-hot water can freeze on feathers and cause severe issues. Unfrozen water helps them maintain feathers for insulation."

He sighed and went back to important matters.

That's how it goes on a Saturday Morning at the Bird Feeder.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you all are safe and warm this weekend.

"We are - but not modest."

  1. These are wonderful titmouse photos. And he has a whole peanut! Do you have an independent heating source? They are calling this snowmageddon.

    1. Thanks Ginny and yes, when I three whole peanuts out there, the titmice handled them no problem. Snowmageddon? Yikes! If the electricity goes out we're going to have to wrap ourselves in a lot of blankets!

  2. Good Morning Denise!
For me, when I try to comment, I get an error message first, and only on the second click is it accepted. This has been going on for a while, but Google can't seem to fix it, or I can't log out using the button either!
It's good to know how birds drink, and another great story about that beautiful bird; it looks so funny with its hair.
Have a lovely Saturday, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it works again soon. Hugs, Elke

    1. Thank you Sandra :), so kind of you and glad you enjoyed. I always worry about them when the weather is bad. I worry about our homeless and hope they seek shelter. There are those who drive around looking for them. The inches they at first predicted has now gone down by over half. Fingers crossed for everyone!

    1. Thanks Christine, I don't aim to be going anywhere once it's started. At 3.40 p.m. it's cloudy but not dark clouds and there is a bright sun getting through :) Whatever is coming won't arrive until late evening.

  11. I've been told by someone she can't reply on my blog. I don't know why. I can't feed to birds. My barn cats are proficient hunters and birds gathered round a feeder is smorgasbord to them. You did get some good photos to the bird.

    1. That's interesting Sandra. There is a blog I can't comment on but that's Wordpress. Maybe it's to do with this glitch I have been having. I'll try again later. At this point in time the issue I was having has resolved itself. I can understand why you don't feed the birds. Glad you enjoyed my photos, thank you :)

  13. Yes I had issues with Blogger and I even reset the settings and followed the directions. I can reply but it doesn't go to the commentor unless I use an alternate screen. If you go to the Blogger help page and ask a question, you may find directions to help.

  15. You have such a sense of humor. The storm started for us last night and we only got a couple of inches, if that much. But round two is tonight.
    Stay warm and safe.

  16. I had a flock of grosbeaks empty what was left in one of the feeders. I'll try to refill tomorrow when temps a bit warmer and before the snow starts.

    1. I don't think I have ever seen a grosbeak here. We had a raccoon at the feeder last night and I was surprised because there hasn't been one here for months :)

  24. The titmouse is very cheeky. When we have something new for our birds, the titmouse is the first to investigate. Fresh water is a big hit with birds in our back yard. We think they tell all their feathered friends!
